Now Naomi had a relative on her husband's side, a prominent and wealthy man of the family of Elimelech. His name was Boaz.

And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.

Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, "Let me go to the fields and gather leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor." Naomi said to her, "Go ahead, my daughter."

And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.

So she went out, entered a field, and began to glean behind the harvesters. By chance, she found herself working in a field belonging to Boaz, who was from the family of Elimelech.

And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.

Just then, Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and greeted the harvesters, "The LORD be with you!" They responded, "The LORD bless you!"

And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said unto the reapers, The LORD be with you. And they answered him, The LORD bless thee.

Boaz asked the servant who was in charge of the harvesters, "Whose young woman is this?"

Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose damsel is this?

The servant replied, "She is the young Moabite woman who returned with Naomi from the land of Moab.

And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab:

"She asked, 'Please let me glean and gather among the sheaves behind the harvesters.' She came and has been working steadily from morning till now, except for a short rest in the shelter."

And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried a little in the house.

So Boaz said to Ruth, "Listen, my daughter. Do not go to glean in another field, and do not leave this one. Stay close to my young women.

Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens:

Keep your eyes on the field they are harvesting and follow after them. I have ordered the young men not to touch you. When you are thirsty, go and drink from the jars the young men have filled."

Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.

She bowed down with her face to the ground and said to him, "Why have I found such favor in your eyes that you notice me—a foreigner?"

Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?

Boaz replied, "It has been fully reported to me all that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband—how you left your father and mother and your native land and came to a people you did not know before.

And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore.

May the LORD reward you for what you have done. May you receive a full reward from the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.

The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.

She said, "May I continue to find favor in your eyes, my lord, because you have comforted me and spoken kindly to your servant—even though I am not one of your servants."

Then she said, Let me find favour in thy sight, my lord; for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken friendly unto thine handmaid, though I be not like unto one of thine handmaidens.

At mealtime, Boaz said to her, "Come here and eat some bread and dip your morsel in the vinegar." So she sat beside the harvesters, and he offered her roasted grain. She ate, was satisfied, and had some leftover.

And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and left.

When she got up to glean, Boaz ordered his young men, "Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not reproach her.

And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not:

Rather, pull out some stalks for her from the bundles and leave them for her to gather. Do not rebuke her."

And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.

So Ruth gleaned in the field until evening. Then she beat out what she had gathered, and it amounted to about an ephah of barley.

So she gleaned in the field until even, and beat out that she had gleaned: and it was about an ephah of barley.

She carried it back to town, and her mother-in-law saw how much she had gleaned. Ruth also brought out and gave Naomi what she had leftover after she had eaten her fill.

And she took it up, and went into the city: and her mother in law saw what she had gleaned: and she brought forth, and gave to her that she had reserved after she was sufficed.

Her mother-in-law asked her, "Where did you glean today? Where did you work? Blessed be the man who noticed you." Then Ruth told her mother-in-law about the one at whose field she had worked. She said, "The man's name I worked with today is Boaz."

And her mother in law said unto her, Where hast thou gleaned to day? and where wroughtest thou? blessed be he that did take knowledge of thee. And she shewed her mother in law with whom she had wrought, and said, The man's name with whom I wrought to day is Boaz.

Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, "May he be blessed by the LORD, who has not stopped showing his kindness to the living and the dead." She added, "That man is a close relative of ours; he is one of our kinsman-redeemers."

And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the LORD, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next kinsmen.

Then Ruth the Moabite said, "He even told me, 'Stay close to my harvesters until they have finished all my harvest.'"

And Ruth the Moabitess said, He said unto me also, Thou shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.

Naomi said to Ruth, her daughter-in-law, "It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his young women, so that you may not be harmed in another field."

And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in any other field.

So Ruth stayed close to the young women of Boaz to glean until the barley harvest and the wheat harvest were finished. And she lived with her mother-in-law.

So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and dwelt with her mother in law.
