Then David said, 'This is the house of the Lord God, and this is the altar of burnt offerings for Israel.'

David provided an abundance of iron for making nails for the doors of the gates and for clamps, as well as so much bronze that it was beyond measure.

He also supplied cedar logs without number, for the Sidonians and Tyrians brought great quantities of cedar logs to David.

David sa: Min sønn Salomo er ung og uerfaren, men huset som skal bygges for Herren må være stort til ære og herlighet i alle land. Derfor vil jeg forberede det for ham nå. David gjorde mange forberedelser før sin død.

David said, 'My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the Lord must be exceedingly magnificent to promote His name and glory throughout all lands. Therefore, I will make preparations for it.' So David made extensive preparations before his death.

Så kalte han sønnen Salomo og befalte ham å bygge huset for Herren, Israels Gud.

Then he called for his son Solomon and instructed him to build a house for the Lord, the God of Israel.

David sa til Salomo: Min sønn, jeg hadde i tankene å bygge et hus for Herren min Guds navn.

David said to Solomon, 'My son, it was in my heart to build a house for the name of the Lord my God.'

Men Herrens ord kom til meg og sa: Du har utøst mye blod og ført store kriger. Derfor skal du ikke bygge et hus for mitt navn, for du har utøst mye blod på jorden for mitt åsyn.

But the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 'You have shed much blood and have fought great wars. You shall not build a house for my name, because you have shed abundant blood on the earth in my sight.'

Men se, en sønn vil bli født for deg. Han skal være en mann av hvile, og jeg vil gi ham ro fra alle hans fiender rundt omkring; for hans navn skal være Salomo, og jeg vil gi fred og stillhet over Israel i hans dager.

Behold, a son will be born to you; he will be a man of rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies around him. His name will be Solomon, and I will grant peace and quiet to Israel during his reign.

Han skal bygge et hus for mitt navn, og han skal være meg en sønn, og jeg vil være ham en far. Jeg vil etablere hans kongedømmes trone over Israel for evig.

He will build a house for my name, and he will be my son, and I will be his father. I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.

Now, my son, may the Lord be with you, so that you may succeed in building the house of the Lord your God, as He has spoken concerning you.

Only may the Lord give you wisdom and understanding and put you in charge of Israel, so that you may keep the law of the Lord your God.

Then you will prosper if you are careful to observe the statutes and ordinances that the Lord commanded Moses concerning Israel. Be strong and courageous; do not fear or be dismayed.

Se, i min nød har jeg forberedt til Herrens hus hundre tusen talenter gull og tusen tusen talenter sølv, og kobber og jern uten mål, for det er i overflod, og jeg har også forberedt tømmer og steiner, som du kan legge til.

Now, behold, in my trouble, I have prepared for the house of the Lord one hundred thousand talents of gold, a million talents of silver, and so much bronze and iron that it cannot be weighed, as well as timber and stone in abundance, which you may add to.

Moreover, you have an abundance of workers—stonecutters, masons, carpenters, and every kind of skilled craftsman.

Gull, sølv, kobber og jern er uten tall. Stå opp og gjør det, og måtte Herren være med deg.

Gold, silver, bronze, and iron are beyond measure. Arise and begin the work, and may the Lord be with you.

David befalte alle Israels ledere å hjelpe hans sønn Salomo.

Then David commanded all the leaders of Israel to help his son Solomon.

Er ikke Herren deres Gud med dere, og har ikke gitt dere hvile på alle sider? For han har overgitt landets innbyggere i min hånd, og landet er lagt under Herrens og hans folks føtter.

He said, 'Isn’t the Lord your God with you? And hasn’t He given you rest on every side? For He has handed the inhabitants of the land over to me, and the land is subdued before the Lord and His people.'

Så sett deres hjerte og sjel til å søke Herren deres Gud; stå opp og bygg Herrens, Guds, helligdom, for å bringe inn Herrens paktsark og de hellige kar for Guds hus, for det som er under bygging for Herrens navn.

Now set your heart and soul to seek the Lord your God. Arise and build the sanctuary of the Lord God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the holy vessels of God into the house that is to be built for the name of the Lord.
