Verse 1

Da David ble gammel og mett av dager, gjorde han sin sønn Salomo til konge over Israel.

When David was old and full of years, he made his son Solomon king over Israel.

Verse 2

Og han samlet alle Israels høvdinger, prestene og levittene.

He gathered all the leaders of Israel, as well as the priests and Levites.

Verse 3

Levittene ble talt fra tretti år og oppover, og antallet av dem ved hoder var åtte og tretti tusen menn.

The Levites, thirty years old and older, were counted by their heads, and the total number of men was thirty-eight thousand.

Verse 4

Av disse var tjuefire tusen satt til å ha oppsyn med arbeidet i Herrens hus, seks tusen var embetsmenn og dommere.

Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of the Lord, six thousand were officers and judges,

Verse 5

Fire tusen var portvoktere, og fire tusen lovpriste Herren med de instrumentene som jeg har laget til lovsang.

four thousand were gatekeepers, and four thousand praised the Lord with the instruments David had made for worship.

Verse 6

David delte dem inn i avdelinger etter Levis sønner, Gersjon, Kehat og Merari.

David organized them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

Verse 7

Til Gershonittene hørte Laedan og Simei.

The Gershonites: Laadan and Shimei.

Verse 8

Laedans sønner var Jehiel, og Zetam og Joel, tre i alt.

The sons of Laadan: Jehiel the chief, Zetham, and Joel—three in all.

Verse 9

Simeis sønner var Selomit, Hasiel og Haran, tre i alt. Disse var overhodene for deres fedrehus til Laedan.

The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran—three. These were the heads of the families of Laadan.

Verse 10

Simeis sønner var Jahat, Sisa, Jeush og Beria, fire i alt.

The sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah—four in all.

Verse 11

Jahat var overhodet og Sisa den nest eldste, men Jeush og Beria hadde ikke mange sønner, så de utgjorde ett fedrehus for å telle.

Jahath was the chief, and Ziza the second. Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons; they were counted as one family with one duty.

Verse 12

Kehats sønner var Amram, Jishar, Hebron og Ussiel, fire i alt.

The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel—four.

Verse 13

Amrams sønner var Aron og Moses. Aron ble utskilt for å hellige Den aller helligste, han og hans sønner for evig tid, til å bære frem røkelse for Herrens åsyn, for å tjene ham og for å velsigne i hans navn for alltid.

The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart, he and his descendants forever, to consecrate the most holy things, to burn incense before the Lord, to serve Him, and to pronounce blessings in His name forever.

Verse 14

Moses, Guds mann, hans sønner ble regnet til Levis stamme.

As for Moses, the man of God, his sons were included among the tribe of Levi.

Verse 15

Moses' sønner var Gersom og Elieser.

The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.

Verse 16

Gersoms sønn var Sjubel, han var overhodet.

The descendants of Gershom: Shebuel was the chief.

Verse 17

Eliesers sønner var Rehabja, han var overhodet. Elieser hadde ingen andre sønner, men Rehabjas sønner ble meget talrike.

The descendants of Eliezer: Rehabiah was the chief. Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very numerous.

Verse 18

Jishars sønn var Selomit, han var overhodet.

The descendants of Izhar: Shelomith was the chief.

Verse 19

Hebrons sønner var Jerija, han var overhodet, Amarja den nest eldste, Jahasiel den tredje og Jekamam den fjerde.

The descendants of Hebron: Jeriah was the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

Verse 20

Ussiels sønner var Mika, han var overhodet, og Jissia den nest eldste.

The descendants of Uzziel: Micah was the chief and Isshiah the second.

Verse 21

Meraris sønner var Mahli og Mushi. Mahlis sønner var Eleasar og Kisj.

The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.

Verse 22

Eleasar døde uten å etterlate seg sønner, men hadde døtre, og deres slektninger, Kisjs sønner, giftet seg med dem.

Eleazar died having no sons, only daughters. Their cousins, the sons of Kish, married them.

Verse 23

Mushis sønner var Mahli, Eder og Jerimot, tre i alt.

The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth—three in all.

Verse 24

Dette var Levis sønner, etter deres fedrehus, overhodene for slektene, talt etter navn, hode for hode, de som gjorde tjenesten i Herrens hus fra tjue år og oppover.

These were the sons of Levi by their families, the heads of the fathers' households, listed by name, individually numbered, who were doing the work for the service of the house of the Lord, from twenty years old and older.

Verse 25

For David sa: 'Herren, Israels Gud, har gitt sitt folk hvile, og han vil bo i Jerusalem evig.'

For David said, 'The Lord, the God of Israel, has given rest to His people, and He dwells in Jerusalem forever.'

Verse 26

Og levittene var ikke lenger nødt til å bære tabernaklet og alle redskapene til tjenesten.

So now the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle and all its utensils for its service.

Verse 27

Etter Davids siste befaling ble Levis sønner talt fra tjue år og oppover.

According to the last instructions of David, the number of the Levites was from twenty years old and upward.

Verse 28

Deres oppgave var å hjelpe Arons sønner i tjenesten i Herrens hus, med forvaltningen av forgårdene, kamrene, renholdelsen av alt hellig, og arbeidet ved Guds hus,

Their job was to assist the descendants of Aaron in the service of the house of the Lord, overseeing the courtyards, the rooms, the ceremonial cleansing of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God.

Verse 29

samt håndteringen av skuebrødet, det fine melet til matofferet, de usyrede brødene, brødene som stekes på stekeplaten, den blandede offergaven, og alle målenhetene.

They were also responsible for the bread of the Presence, the fine flour for the grain offerings, the unleavened wafers, the baking of offerings in the pan, the well-mixed offerings, and all measures of quantity and size.

Verse 30

De skulle stå opp hver morgen for å prise og lovsynge Herren, og likeledes om kvelden,

They were to stand every morning to give thanks and praise to the Lord, and also every evening.

Verse 31

og ved alle ofrene som skulle bringes til Herren sabbatene, nymånedagene og høytidene, i det antall og på den måte som foreskrevet for dem, alltid for Herrens åsyn.

They were to offer all burnt offerings to the Lord on the sabbaths, the new moons, and the appointed festivals as prescribed, continually before the Lord.

Verse 32

De skulle gjøre tjeneste i telthelligdommen, og ha tilsyn med helligdommens gjerning og sine slektningene Arons sønner, for tjenesten i Herrens hus.

In this way they fulfilled their duty to care for the Tent of Meeting, the holy place, and their brothers, the descendants of Aaron, for the service of the house of the Lord.
