Until the day He was taken up to heaven, after He had given instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles He had chosen.

After His suffering, He presented Himself alive to them with many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.

While He was with them, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, He said, "You have heard from Me."

For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

After He had said this, He was taken up as they were watching, and a cloud hid Him from their sight.

As they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, suddenly two men in white robes stood beside them.

Then they returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey away.

Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their own language, Akeldama, which means 'Field of Blood.'

So they proposed two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias.
