And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and unable to see the sun for a time. Immediately, a mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking someone to lead him by the hand.

Then the proconsul, when he saw what had happened, believed, being amazed at the teaching of the Lord.

Now Paul and his companions set sail from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia. But John left them and returned to Jerusalem.

Passing through Perga, they arrived at Antioch in Pisidia. On the Sabbath, they went into the synagogue and sat down.

After the reading of the law and the prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent a message to them, saying, 'Brothers, if you have any word of encouragement for the people, speak.'

Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand, said, 'Men of Israel and you who fear God, listen!'

The God of this people Israel chose our ancestors, and He made the people prosper during their stay in Egypt. With an uplifted arm, He led them out of it.

I omtrent førti år bar han over med dem i ørkenen.

For about forty years He endured their behavior in the wilderness.

And after He had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He gave their land to them as an inheritance.

All this took about 450 years. Afterward, He gave them judges until Samuel the prophet.

Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul, the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled for forty years.

After removing him, He raised up David to be their king, about whom He testified, 'I have found David, the son of Jesse, to be a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.'

From the descendants of this man, according to His promise, God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus.

Før han trådte frem, hadde Johannes forkynt omvendelsens dåp for hele Israels folk.

Before His coming, John had already proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.

As John was finishing his course, he said, 'Who do you think I am? I am not He. But behold, One is coming after me whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.'

Brothers, children of Abraham's lineage, and you who fear God, this message of salvation has been sent to us.

The people living in Jerusalem and their rulers, not recognizing Him or the words of the prophets, which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning Him.

Though they found no basis for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have Him executed.

For David, after he had served God’s purpose in his own generation, fell asleep, was buried with his ancestors, and saw decay.

Therefore, let it be known to you, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.

Through Him, everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses.

So beware that what is spoken of in the prophets does not come upon you:

'Look, you scoffers! Be amazed and perish, for I am doing a work in your days, a work you will never believe, even if someone tells you about it.'

As Paul and Barnabas were leaving the synagogue, the Gentiles begged them to speak these words to them on the next Sabbath.

After the synagogue meeting had ended, many of the Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who spoke to them and urged them to continue in the grace of God.

On the following Sabbath, almost the entire city gathered to hear the word of the Lord.

But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy. They began to contradict what Paul was saying and heaped abuse on him.

Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, 'It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we are now turning to the Gentiles.'

For dette er det Herren har befalt oss: 'Jeg har satt deg til et lys for folkeslagene, for at du skal bringe frelse helt til jordens ende.'

For this is what the Lord has commanded us: 'I have made you a light for the Gentiles, to bring salvation to the ends of the earth.'

Da folkeslagene hørte dette, gledet de seg og priste Herrens ord, og alle som var bestemt til evig liv, kom til tro.

When the Gentiles heard this, they rejoiced and glorified the word of the Lord, and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.

Herrens ord ble spredt over hele området.

The word of the Lord spread through the entire region.

Men jødene oppviglet de gudfryktige kvinnene av stand og de ledende mennene i byen, og de førte forfølgelse mot Paulus og Barnabas og jagde dem ut av sitt område.

But the Jews incited the devout women of high standing and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas and drove them out of their region.

So they shook the dust off their feet as a testimony against them and went to Iconium.

Disiplene ble fylt med glede og med Den hellige ånd.

And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
