At Iconium, Paul and Barnabas went together into the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a large number of both Jews and Greeks believed.

But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the minds of the Gentiles and turned them against the brothers.

So Paul and Barnabas stayed there for a considerable time, speaking boldly in reliance on the Lord, who confirmed the message of his grace by granting signs and wonders to be done through their hands.

The people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews, while others supported the apostles.

Paul and Barnabas became aware of it and fled to the cities of Lycaonia—Lystra and Derbe—and the surrounding region.

Og der forkynte de evangeliet.

There they continued preaching the good news.

I Lystra satt en mann som var lam i føttene, ufør fra morens liv, og hadde aldri kunnet gå.

In Lystra, there was a man who could not use his feet; he was lame from birth and had never walked.

This man was listening to Paul as he spoke. Paul looked intently at him and saw that he had faith to be healed.

Paul said loudly, 'Stand upright on your feet!' And the man jumped up and began to walk.

When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they raised their voices in the Lycaonian language, saying, 'The gods have come down to us in human form!'

They called Barnabas Zeus and Paul Hermes, because he was the chief speaker.

The priest of Zeus, whose temple was outside the city, brought bulls and garlands to the gates, intending to offer sacrifices with the crowds.

But when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard about it, they tore their clothes and rushed into the crowd, shouting,

They cried out, 'Men, why are you doing these things? We are also humans with the same nature as you, proclaiming the good news to you, that you should turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and everything in them.'

In past generations, he allowed all the nations to walk in their own ways.

Yet, he did not leave himself without a witness, for he gave you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling you with food and gladness in your hearts.

Even with these words, they barely restrained the crowds from sacrificing to them.

Men fra Antiokia og Ikonium kom det jøder. De overtalte mengden, og de steinet Paulus og slepte ham utenfor byen, fordi de trodde han var død.

But some Jews from Antioch and Iconium arrived, persuaded the crowds, and they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, thinking he was dead.

But when the disciples gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city. The next day, he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.

After they had preached the gospel in that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch,

strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to continue in the faith, saying, 'We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.'

They appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed.

Then they passed through Pisidia and came to Pamphylia.

After proclaiming the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia.

From there, they sailed back to Antioch, where they had been entrusted to the grace of God for the work they had now completed.

When they arrived and gathered the church together, they reported all that God had done through them and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.

And they stayed there a considerable time with the disciples.
