Be meticulous in observing all the commandments that I am commanding you today, so that you may live, multiply, enter, and take possession of the land which the Lord swore to your fathers.

Og du skal huske hele veien som Herren din Gud har ført deg gjennom disse førti årene i ørkenen, for å ydmyke deg og prøve deg, så han kunne vite hva som var i ditt hjerte, om du ville holde hans bud eller ikke.

Remember the entire journey the Lord your God has led you on these forty years in the wilderness, to humble and test you in order to know what is in your heart—whether or not you would keep His commandments.

He humbled you and allowed you to hunger, then fed you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers knew, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

Your clothing did not wear out, nor did your feet swell during these forty years.

Know then in your heart that just as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you.

Så skal du holde Herrens, din Guds, bud, så du går på hans veier og frykter ham.

Therefore, you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and to revere Him.

For Herren din Gud fører deg til et godt land, et land med bekker av vann, kilder og dypvann som strømmer frem i dalen og på fjellet.

For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land—a land with streams of water, springs, and deep waters flowing out in valleys and hills.

Et land med hvete og bygg, vintrær og fikentrær og granatepler, et land med oljetrær og honning.

A land of wheat and barley, vines and fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil, and honey.

Et land du ikke skal spise brød i fattigdom, der du ikke skal mangle noe, et land der steinene er jern, og av fjellene kan du hogge kobber.

A land where you will eat bread without scarcity—where you will lack nothing, a land whose stones are iron and from whose hills you can dig copper.

Og du skal spise og bli mett og velsigne Herren din Gud for det gode landet han har gitt deg.

You will eat and be satisfied, and you will bless the Lord your God for the good land He has given you.

Se til at du ikke glemmer Herren din Gud, så du ikke holder hans bud, lover og forskrifter, som jeg befaler deg i dag.

Be careful not to forget the Lord your God by failing to keep His commandments, judgments, and statutes that I am commanding you today.

For at du ikke skulle spise og bli mett og bygge gode hus og bo i dem,

Otherwise, when you have eaten and are satisfied, and have built fine houses and settled in them,

og når ditt buskap og dine sauer øker, og ditt sølv og gull øker, og alt du har øker,

When your herds and flocks have multiplied, and your silver and gold have increased, and all that you have has multiplied,

og ditt hjerte blir hovmodig, og du glemmer Herren din Gud som førte deg ut av Egypt, ut av trellehuset.

then your heart may grow proud, and you might forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

He led you through the great and terrifying wilderness, filled with venomous snakes, scorpions, and thirsty ground where there was no water. He brought water for you out of a rock of flint.

He fed you manna in the wilderness, which your fathers had never known, to humble and test you so that He might do good for you in the end.

You may say in your heart, 'My power and the strength of my hand have produced this wealth for me.'

But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the power to gain wealth, so that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is today.

If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods, worshiping and bowing down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely perish.

Som de hedningefolk Herren lar gå til grunne foran dere, slik skal dere også gå til grunne fordi dere ikke vilde høre på Herren deres Guds røst.

Like the nations that the Lord is destroying before you, so you will perish if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God.
