In the tenth year, on the twelfth day of the tenth month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying:

Son of man, set your face against Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and prophesy against him and all Egypt.

Speak and say, 'This is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great monster lying in the midst of his rivers, who says, ‘The Nile is mine; I made it for myself.’

I will put hooks in your jaws, and make the fish of your rivers cling to your scales. I will pull you up from among your rivers, and all the fish of your rivers will cling to your scales.

Jeg skal kaste deg ut i ørkenen, både deg og alle fiskene i dine elver. Du vil falle på markens overflate og ikke bli samlet eller begravet. Jeg gir deg til markens dyr og himmelens fugler som mat.

I will leave you in the desert—you and all the fish of your rivers. You will fall on the open fields, and you will not be gathered or buried. I have given you as food to the beasts of the earth and the birds of the heavens.

Alle innbyggerne i Egypt skal vite at jeg er Herren, fordi de har vært en svak støtte, som en rørstav for Israels hus.

Then all the inhabitants of Egypt will know that I am the LORD, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel.

When they grasped you with their hands, you splintered and tore all their shoulders; and when they leaned on you, you broke, making their backs give way.

Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am bringing a sword against you, and I will cut off both man and beast from among you.

Egyptens land skal bli en ødemark og ruiner, og de skal vite at jeg er Herren, fordi du sa: 'Mine elver er mine, og jeg har skapt dem.'

The land of Egypt will become a desolate waste. Then they will know that I am the LORD. Because he said, 'The Nile is mine; I made it,'

Derfor, se, jeg er imot deg og dine elver. Jeg vil gjøre Egypts land til en fullkommen ødemark fra Migdol til Syene, like til Etiopias grense.

therefore, I am against you and your rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt a ruin and a waste from Migdol to Syene, as far as the border of Cush.

No foot of man or beast will pass through it; it will be uninhabited for forty years.

I will make the land of Egypt a desolation in the midst of desolate lands, and her cities will be among ruined cities—a desolation for forty years. I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them through the lands.

For så sier Herren Gud: Når førti år er gått, vil jeg samle egypterne fra de folkene de er blitt spredt blant.

For this is what the Lord GOD says: At the end of forty years, I will gather Egypt from the peoples where they were scattered.

I will restore the fortunes of Egypt and bring them back to the land of Pathros, the land of their origin. There they will be a lowly kingdom.

It will be the lowliest of kingdoms and will never again exalt itself above the nations. I will diminish them so that they will not rule over the nations anymore.

It will no longer be a source of confidence for the house of Israel, bringing their guilt to mind when they turn to Egypt for help. Then they will know that I am the Lord GOD.

Menneskesønn, Nebukadnesar, kongen av Babylon, fikk sin hær til å tjene hardt mot Tyrus. Hvert hode ble skallet og hver skulder ble skavet, men han fikk ingen lønn for sin harde tjeneste mot Tyrus, verken han eller hans hær.

Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made his army labor hard against Tyre; every head was rubbed bare and every shoulder made raw. But neither he nor his army received wages from Tyre for the labor he had performed against it.

Derfor sier Herren Gud: Se, jeg gir Nebukadnesar, kongen av Babylon, Egypt til lønn. Han skal bære bort rikdommen, plyndre skattene og ta byttet, som en lønn for sin hær.

Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. He will carry off her wealth, her plunder, and her loot as wages for his army.

As payment for the labor he performed, I have given him the land of Egypt, because they worked for me, declares the Lord GOD.

On that day I will cause a horn to sprout for the house of Israel, and I will open your mouth among them. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
