I det trettisjette året av Asas regjering gikk Baesa, kongen av Israel, mot Juda og bygde opp Rama for å hindre at noen gikk ut eller inn til Asa, kongen av Juda.

In the six and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa, Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and built Ramah, that he might not suffer any one to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

Da tok Asa ut sølv og gull fra skattene i Herrens hus og kongens hus og sendte dem til Ben-Hadad, kongen av Syria, som bodde i Damaskus, og sa:

Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of Jehovah and of the king's house, and sent to Ben-hadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,

Det er en pakt mellom meg og deg, som det var mellom min far og din far. Se, jeg har sendt deg sølv og gull; gå og bryt pakten med Baesa, kongen av Israel, så han kan trekke seg fra meg.

`There is' a league between me and thee, as `there was' between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent thee silver and gold; go, break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.

Og Ben-Hadad lyttet til kong Asa, og sendte høvdingene for sine hærer mot Israels byer; de slo Ijon, Dan, Abel-Maim og alle forrådsbyene i Naftali.

And Ben-hadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-maim, and all the store-cities of Naphtali.

Da Baesa fikk høre det, opphørte han med å bygge Rama og lot sitt arbeid ligge.

And it came to pass, when Baasha heard thereof, that he left off building Ramah, and let his work cease.

Da tok kong Asa med seg hele Juda, og de førte bort steinene fra Rama og tømmeret som Baesa hadde brukt, og med dem bygde han opp Geba og Mispa.

Then Asa the king took all Judah; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha had builded; and he built therewith Geba and Mizpah.

På den tiden kom seeren Hanani til Asa, kongen av Juda, og sa til ham: Fordi du har stol på kongen av Syria og ikke har stol på Herren din Gud, derfor har kongens hær fra Syria sluppet unna deg.

And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and hast not relied on Jehovah thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thy hand.

Var ikke etiopierne og lubittene en stor hær, med vogner og ryttere i overflod? Allikevel, fordi du stolte på Herren, overga han dem i din hånd.

Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubim a huge host, with chariots and horsemen exceeding many? yet, because thou didst rely on Jehovah, he delivered them into thy hand.

For Herrens øyne farer over hele jorden for å vise sin styrke mot dem hvis hjerte er fullkomment overfor ham. Her har du handlet uklokt; derfor vil du fra nå av ha krig.

For the eyes of Jehovah run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly; for from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

Da ble Asa vred på seeren og satte ham i fengsel, fordi han var sint på ham på grunn av dette. Og Asa undertrykte noen av folket samtidig.

Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in the prison-house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.

And, behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

I det trettiniende året av sin regjering ble Asa syk i føttene; hans sykdom var meget alvorlig, men selv i sin sykdom søkte han ikke Herren, men legene.

And in the thirty and ninth year of his reign Asa was diseased in his feet; his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to Jehovah, but to the physicians.

Så sov Asa med sine fedre, og døde i det en og førtiende året av sin regjering.

And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign.

De begravde ham i hans egen grav som han hadde hogd ut i Davids by, og la ham i en seng fylt med velluktende urter og forskjellige slags krydder, tilberedt av parfymeørens kunst: og de brente en meget stor brann for ham.

And they buried him in his own sepulchres, which he had hewn out for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odors and divers kinds `of spices' prepared by the perfumers' art: and they made a very great burning for him.
