Og Guds Ånd kom over Asarja, sønn av Oded:

And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded:

og han gikk ut for å møte Asa og sa til ham: «Hør meg, Asa, og hele Juda og Benjamin: Herren er med dere så lenge dere er med ham. Hvis dere søker ham, vil han la seg finne av dere; men hvis dere forlater ham, vil han forlate dere.»

and he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: Jehovah is with you, while ye are with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.

Nå har Israel i lang tid vært uten den sanne Gud, uten en prest som underviser, og uten lov:

Now for a long season Israel was without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law:

Men da de i sin nød vendte seg til Herren, Israels Gud, og søkte ham, lot han seg finne av dem.

But when in their distress they turned unto Jehovah, the God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.

På den tiden var det ingen fred for de som gikk ut eller de som kom inn, men stor uro blant alle landets innbyggere.

And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in; but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the lands.

De ble knust, nasjon mot nasjon og by mot by, for Gud plaget dem med all slags trengsler.

And they were broken in pieces, nation against nation, and city against city; for God did vex them with all adversity.

Men vær sterke, og la ikke hendene deres være svake; for arbeidet deres skal få sin lønn.

But be ye strong, and let not your hands be slack; for your work shall be rewarded.

Og da Asa hørte disse ordene og profetien til Oded profeten, tok han mot til seg og fjernet alle avskyeligheter fra hele Juda og Benjamin, og fra byene han hadde tatt i Efraims fjelland; og han fornyet Herrens alter, som var foran Herrens forhall.

And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominations out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from the hill-country of Ephraim; and he renewed the altar of Jehovah, that was before the porch of Jehovah.

Og han samlet hele Juda og Benjamin, og de som bodde med dem fra Efraim og Manasse, og fra Simeon: for mange skilte seg fra Israel og kom til ham da de så at Herren hans Gud var med ham.

And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and them that sojourned with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that Jehovah his God was with him.

Så samlet de seg i Jerusalem i den tredje måneden, i det femtende året da Asa regjerte.

So they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.

Og de ofret til Herren den dagen av byttet de hadde tatt, syv hundre okser og syv tusen sauer.

And they sacrificed unto Jehovah in that day, of the spoil which they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep.

Og de inngikk en pakt om å søke Herren, sine fedres Gud, av hele sitt hjerte og hele sin sjel;

And they entered into the covenant to seek Jehovah, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and with all their soul;

og at enhver som ikke ville søke Herren, Israels Gud, skulle dø, enten liten eller stor, mann eller kvinne.

and that whosoever would not seek Jehovah, the God of Israel, should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.

Og de sverget til Herren med høy røst, med rop og med trompeter og horn.

And they sware unto Jehovah with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets.

Og hele Juda gledet seg over eden, for de hadde sverget av hele sitt hjerte og søkt ham med all sin lengsel; og han lot seg finne av dem, og Herren ga dem fred rundt om.

And all Judah rejoiced at the oath; for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and Jehovah gave them rest round about.

Han fjernet også Maaka, kong Asas mor, fra å være dronning, fordi hun hadde laget et avskyelig bilde for Astarte; og Asa hogde ned bildet, knuste det til støv og brente det ved Kidronbekken.

And also Maacah, the mother of Asa the king, he removed from being queen, because she had made an abominable image for an Asherah; and Asa cut down her image, and made dust of it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.

Men offerhaugene ble ikke fjernet fra Israel; likevel var Asas hjerte helt med Herren alle hans dager.

But the high places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.

Og han brakte inn i Guds hus de ting som hans far hadde viet, og som han selv hadde viet: sølv, gull og kar.

And he brought into the house of God the things that his father had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.

Og det var ikke mer krig før det femogtredvende året av Asas regjering.

And there was no more war unto the five and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa.
