1 Og Herren sa til Moses: Gå til farao, for jeg har forherdet hans hjerte og hans tjeneres hjerter, så jeg kan vise mine tegn blant dem.

And Jehovah said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I may show these my signs in the midst of them,

2 og for at du skal fortelle til dine sønner og dine sønners sønner hva jeg har gjort i Egypt, og mine tegn som jeg har gjort blant dem, så dere skal forstå at jeg er Herren.

and that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son's son, what things I have wrought upon Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know that I am Jehovah.

3 Da gikk Moses og Aron inn til farao og sa til ham: Så sier Herren, hebreernes Gud: Hvor lenge vil du nekte å ydmyke deg for meg? La folket mitt gå, så de kan tjene meg.

And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me.

4 Hvis du nekter å la folket mitt gå, så vil jeg i morgen bringe gresshopper inn i landet ditt.

Else, if thou refuse to let my people go, behold, to-morrow will I bring locusts into thy border:

5 De skal dekke jorden så man ikke kan se den, og de skal ete det som er igjen etter haglet, og de skal spise opp hvert tre som vokser for dere på markene.

and they shall cover the face of the earth, so that one shall not be able to see the earth: and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remaineth unto you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the field:

6 Dine hus, og alle dine tjeneres hus, og alle egypternes hus skal fylles, slik som verken dine fedre eller dine fedres fedre har sett fra den dag de kom på jorden til denne dag. Og han vendte om og gikk ut fra farao.

and thy houses shall be filled, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; as neither thy fathers nor thy fathers' fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned, and went out from Pharaoh.

7 Da sa faraos tjenere til ham: Hvor lenge skal denne mannen være en snare for oss? La mennene gå, så de kan tjene Herren sin Gud. Ser du ennå ikke at Egypt er ødelagt?

And Pharaoh's servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve Jehovah their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?

8 Så ble Moses og Aron hentet tilbake til farao, og han sa til dem: Gå, tjen Herren deres Gud. Men hvem er det som skal gå med?

And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he said unto them, Go, serve Jehovah your God; but who are they that shall go?

9 Moses svarte: Vi vil gå med våre unge og gamle, med våre sønner og døtre, med våre småfe og storfe, for vi skal holde høytid for Herren.

And Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old; with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast unto Jehovah.

10 Og han sa til dem: Måtte Herren være med dere, slik jeg lar dere gå med de små. Se dere til, det er fare foran dere.

And he said unto them, So be Jehovah with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look to it; for evil is before you.

11 Nei, mennene kan gå og tjene Herren, for det er det dere ønsker. Og de ble jaget ut fra faraos nærvær.

Not so: go now ye that are men, and serve Jehovah; for that is what ye desire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence.

12 Og Herren sa til Moses: Rekk ut hånden din over Egypts land for gresshoppene, så de kan komme over landet og ete hver plante som er igjen etter haglet.

And Jehovah said unto Moses, Stretch out thy hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail hath left.

13 Moses rakte ut staven sin over Egypt, og Herren brakte en østavind over landet hele den dagen og natten. Om morgenen brakte østavinden gresshopper.

And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and Jehovah brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all the night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.

14 Gresshoppene kom over hele Egypt og slo seg ned i hele landet; de var svært alvorlige. Før dem hadde ingen sett slike gresshopper, og heller ikke etter dem skal slike bli sett.

And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the borders of Egypt; very grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such.

15 De dekket hele landets overflate så jorden ble mørklagt, og de åt hver plante og all frukt på trærne, så ingenting grønt ble igjen i trær eller planter på markene i hele Egypt.

For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they did eat every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left: and there remained not any green thing, either tree or herb of the field, through all the land of Egypt.

16 Da kalte farao raskt på Moses og Aron og sa: Jeg har syndet mot Herren deres Gud og mot dere.

Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste; and he said, I have sinned against Jehovah your God, and against you.

17 Tilgi nå synden min bare denne ene gang, og be til Herren deres Gud at han må ta bort denne død fra meg.

Now therefore forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and entreat Jehovah your God, that he may take away from me this death only.

18 Og han gikk ut fra farao og ba til Herren.

And he went out from Pharaoh, and entreated Jehovah.

19 Og Herren vendte en sterk vestavind, som tok gresshoppene og blåste dem ut i Rødehavet; ikke en eneste gresshoppe ble igjen i hele Egypts land.

And Jehovah turned an exceeding strong west wind, which took up the locusts, and drove them into the Red Sea; there remained not one locust in all the border of Egypt.

20 Men Herren forherdet faraos hjerte, og han lot ikke Israels barn dra.

But Jehovah hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the children of Israel go.

21 Og Herren sa til Moses: Rekk ut hånden din mot himmelen, så det kan bli mørke over landet Egypt, et mørke som kan føles.

And Jehovah said unto Moses, Stretch out thy hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.

22 Moses rakte ut hånden mot himmelen, og det ble tett mørke i hele Egypts land i tre dager.

And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days;

23 Ingen kunne se hverandre, og ingen reiste seg fra sitt sted i tre dager; men alle Israels barn hadde lys i sine boliger.

they saw not one another, neither rose any one from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

24 Da kalte farao på Moses og sa: Gå, tjen Herren, bare la småfeet og storfeet bli; men la barna deres gå med dere.

And Pharaoh called unto Moses, and said, Go ye, serve Jehovah; only let your flocks and your herds be stayed: let your little ones also go with you.

25 Moses svarte: Du må gi oss slaktoffer og brennoffer, så vi kan ofre til Herren vår Gud.

And Moses said, Thou must also give into our hand sacrifices and burnt-offerings, that we may sacrifice unto Jehovah our God.

26 Våre dyr skal også gå med oss, ikke en klauv skal bli igjen, for av dem må vi ta til å tjene Herren vår Gud, og vi vet ikke hva vi skal ofre til Herren før vi kommer dit.

Our cattle also shall go with us; there shall not a hoof be left behind: for thereof must we take to serve Jehovah our God; and we know not with what we must serve Jehovah, until we come thither.

27 Men Herren forherdet faraos hjerte, og han ville ikke la dem dra.

But Jehovah hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go.

28 Da sa farao til ham: Gå bort fra meg! Vokt deg, se meg ikke mer, for den dagen du ser meg, skal du dø.

And Pharaoh said unto him, Get thee from me, take heed to thyself, see my face no more; for in the day thou seest my face thou shalt die.

29 Moses sa: Som du sier! Jeg skal ikke se deg mer.

And Moses said, Thou hast spoken well. I will see thy face again no more.
