1 Da sang Moses og Israels barn denne sangen til Herren, og sa: «Jeg vil synge for Herren, for han har triumfert herlig: Hesten og rytteren kastet han i havet.»

Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto Jehovah, and spake, saying, I will sing unto Jehovah, for he hath triumphed gloriously: The horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

2 Herren er min styrke og min sang, og han er blitt min frelse: Dette er min Gud, og jeg vil prise ham; min fars Gud, og jeg vil opphøye ham.

Jehovah is my strength and song, And he is become my salvation: This is my God, and I will praise him; My father's God, and I will exalt him.

3 Herren er en stridsmann: Herren er hans navn.

Jehovah is a man of war: Jehovah is his name.

4 Faraos vogner og hans hær kastet han i havet; hans utvalgte befaler sank i Rødehavet.

Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea; And his chosen captains are sunk in the Red Sea.

5 De store dyp dekket dem: De sank ned i dypet som en stein.

The deeps cover them: They went down into the depths like a stone.

6 Din høyre hånd, Herre, er strålende i makt, din høyre hånd, Herre, knuser fienden.

Thy right hand, O Jehovah, is glorious in power, Thy right hand, O Jehovah, dasheth in pieces the enemy.

7 Og i din storslåtte herlighet omstyrter du dem som reiser seg mot deg: Du sender ut din vrede, den fortærer dem som halm.

And in the greatness of thine excellency thou overthrowest them that rise up against thee: Thou sendest forth thy wrath, it consumeth them as stubble.

8 Og med pusten av dine nesebor hopet vannet seg opp, bølgene stod opprett som en haug; dypet stivnet i havets midte.

And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were piled up, The floods stood upright as a heap; The deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea.

9 Fienden sa: Jeg vil forfølge, jeg vil innhente, jeg vil dele byttet; min lyst skal bli tilfredsstilt på dem; jeg vil dra mitt sverd, min hånd skal tilintetgjøre dem.

The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; My desire shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.

10 Du blåste med din vind, havet dekket dem: De sank som bly i de mektige vannene.

Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: They sank as lead in the mighty waters.

11 Hvem er som du, Herre, blant gudene? Hvem er som deg, herlig i hellighet, fryktinngytende i lovprise, som gjør under?

Who is like unto thee, O Jehovah, among the gods? Who is like thee, glorious in holiness, Fearful in praises, doing wonders?

12 Du rakte ut din høyre hånd, jorden slukte dem.

Thou stretchedst out thy right hand, The earth swallowed them.

13 I din kjærlighet har du ledet folket du har frikjøpt: du har ledet dem med din styrke til din hellige bolig.

Thou in thy lovingkindness hast led the people that thou hast redeemed: Thou hast guided them in thy strength to thy holy habitation.

14 Folkene har hørt, de skjelver: Skjelving har grepet innbyggerne i Filistland.

The peoples have heard, they tremble: Pangs have taken hold on the inhabitants of Philistia.

15 Da ble Edoms høvdinger lammet av frykt; Moabs mektige menn, skjelving grep dem: Alle innbyggerne i Kanaan er tynget av frykt.

Then were the chiefs of Edom dismayed; The mighty men of Moab, trembling taketh hold upon them: All the inhabitants of Canaan are melted away.

16 Redsel og angst faller på dem; ved din arms storhet blir de som stein; til ditt folk går over, Herre, til folket går over som du har vunnet.

Terror and dread falleth upon them; By the greatness of thine arm they are as still as a stone; Till thy people pass over, O Jehovah, Till the people pass over that thou hast purchased.

17 Du vil føre dem inn, og plante dem på ditt arvs fjell, stedet, Herre, som du har gjort klart for å bo i, din helligdom, Herre, som dine hender har grunnlagt.

Thou wilt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, The place, O Jehovah, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, The sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.

18 Herren skal herske i all evighet.

Jehovah shall reign for ever and ever.

19 For Faraos hester gikk inn med hans vogner og med hans ryttere i havet, og Herren førte vannet tilbake over dem; men Israels barn gikk på tørr grunn midt i havet.

For the horses of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and Jehovah brought back the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel walked on dry land in the midst of the sea.

20 Og Miriam profetinnen, Aarons søster, tok en tamburin i hånden, og alle kvinnene fulgte henne med tamburiner og danser.

And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.

21 Og Miriam svarte dem: «Syng for Herren, for han har triumfert herlig; hesten og rytteren kastet han i havet.»

And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to Jehovah, for he hath triumphed gloriously; The horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

22 Og Moses ledet Israel videre fra Rødehavet, og de dro inn i ørkenen Sur; de dro tre dager gjennom ørkenen og fant ikke vann.

And Moses led Israel onward from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.

23 Da de kom til Mara, kunne de ikke drikke vannet der, for det var bittert: derfor ble stedet kalt Mara.

And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah.

24 Og folket klaget til Moses og sa: «Hva skal vi drikke?»

And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?

25 Og han ropte til Herren, og Herren viste ham et tre, og han kastet det i vannet, og vannet ble søtt. Der fastsatte han en lov og en forskrift for dem, og der satte han dem på prøve.

An he cried unto Jehovah; And Jehovah showed him a tree, and he cast it into the waters, and the waters were made sweet. There he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them;

26 Og han sa: Hvis du vil lytte nøye til Herren din Guds røst, og gjøre det som er rett i hans øyne, og høre på hans bud, og holde alle hans forskrifter, skal jeg ikke legge noen av de sykdommer på deg som jeg la på egypterne, for jeg er Herren som leger deg.

and he said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of Jehovah thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his eyes, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases upon thee, which I have put upon the Egyptians: for I am Jehovah that healeth thee.

27 Og de kom til Elim, der det var tolv kilder og sytti palmer; og de slo leir ved vannet der.

And they came to Elim, where were twelve springs of water, and threescore and ten palm-trees: and they encamped there by the waters.
