1 Herrens hånd var over meg, og han førte meg ut i Herrens Ånd og satte meg midt i dalen, som var full av bein.

The hand of Jehovah was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of Jehovah, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones.

2 Han lot meg gå rundt omkring dem, og se, det var svært mange i den åpne dalen, og de var veldig tørre.

And he caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry.

3 Han sa til meg: Menneskesønn, kan disse beina bli levende? Jeg svarte: Å, Herre Gud, du vet det.

And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord Jehovah, thou knowest.

4 Da sa han til meg: Profeter over disse beina og si til dem: Dere tørre bein, hør Herrens ord!

Again he said unto me, Prophesy over these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of Jehovah.

5 Så sier Herren Gud til disse beina: Se, jeg vil ånde pust i dere, og dere skal bli levende.

Thus saith the Lord Jehovah unto these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live.

6 Jeg vil legge sener på dere, la kjøtt vokse på dere og dekke dere med hud. Jeg vil gi dere pust, og dere skal leve. Dere skal kjenne at jeg er Herren.

And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am Jehovah.

7 Så profeterte jeg som jeg var blitt befalt. Og mens jeg profeterte, var det en lyd, og se, et jordskjelv, og beina kom sammen, bein til bein.

So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and, behold, an earthquake; and the bones came together, bone to its bone.

8 Og jeg så, og se, det var sener på dem, og kjøtt vokste opp, og hud dekket dem, men det var ingen pust i dem.

And I beheld, and, lo, there were sinews upon them, and flesh came up, and skin covered them above; but there was no breath in them.

9 Da sa han til meg: Profeter til vinden, profeter, menneskesønn, og si til vinden: Så sier Herren Gud: Kom fra de fire vindene, du pust, og blås på disse drepte, så de kan bli levende.

Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.

10 Så profeterte jeg som han hadde befalt meg, og ånden kom inn i dem, og de ble levende og sto opp på føttene, en meget stor hær.

So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.

11 Da sa han til meg: Menneskesønn, disse beina er hele Israels hus. Se, de sier: Våre bein er tørket opp, og vårt håp er borte; vi er helt avskåret.

Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are clean cut off.

12 Derfor, profeter og si til dem: Så sier Herren Gud: Se, jeg vil åpne deres graver og føre dere opp av gravene, mitt folk; og jeg vil bringe dere til Israels land.

Therefore prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, O my people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel.

13 Dere skal kjenne at jeg er Herren når jeg har åpnet gravene deres og ført dere opp fra dem, mitt folk.

And ye shall know that I am Jehovah, when I have opened your graves, and caused you to come up out of your graves, O my people.

14 Jeg vil gi min Ånd i dere, og dere skal leve. Jeg vil sette dere i deres eget land, og dere skal forstå at jeg, Herren, har talt og utført det, sier Herren.

And I will put my Spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I will place you in your own land: and ye shall know that I, Jehovah, have spoken it and performed it, saith Jehovah.

15 Herrens ord kom igjen til meg, og sa:

The word of Jehovah came again unto me, saying,

16 Du, menneskesønn, ta deg en stav og skriv på den: For Juda og for Israels barn, hans følgesvenner; så ta enda en stav og skriv på den: For Josef, staven til Efraim, og for hele Israels hus, hans følgesvenner.

And thou, son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and `for' all the house of Israel his companions:

17 Før dem sammen til én stav i din hånd, så de blir én i din hånd.

and join them for thee one to another into one stick, that they may become one in thy hand.

18 Når folket ditt spør deg: Vil du ikke vise oss hva du mener med dette?

And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying, Wilt thou not show us what thou meanest by these?

19 si til dem: Så sier Herren Gud: Se, jeg vil ta Josefs stav, som er i Efraims hånd, og de israelske stammene, hans følgesvenner, og jeg vil legge dem til Judas stav og gjøre dem til én stav i min hånd.

say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his companions; and I will put them with it, `even' with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in my hand.

20 Den staven du skriver på, skal være i din hånd for øynene deres.

And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thy hand before their eyes.

21 Si til dem: Så sier Herren Gud: Se, jeg vil ta Israels barn fra folkene der de har dratt, og jeg vil samle dem fra alle kanter og føre dem til deres eget land.

And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, whither they are gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land:

22 Jeg vil gjøre dem til ett folk i landet, på Israels fjell; og én konge skal være konge over dem alle. De skal ikke lenger være to nasjoner, og de skal ikke lenger være delt i to riker.

and I will make them one nation in the land, upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all; and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all;

23 De skal ikke lenger gjøre seg urene med avgudene sine, med sine avskyelige ting eller med noen av sine overtredelser. Jeg vil redde dem fra alle bostedene der de har syndet, og rense dem. De skal være mitt folk, og jeg skal være deres Gud.

neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions; but I will save them out of all their dwelling-places, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God.

24 Min tjener David skal være konge over dem, og de skal alle ha én hyrde. De skal følge mine lover og holde mine forskrifter og gjøre etter dem.

And my servant David shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in mine ordinances, and observe my statutes, and do them.

25 De skal bo i det landet jeg har gitt min tjener Jakob, hvor deres fedre bodde. De skal bo der, de og deres barn og barnebarn, for alltid. Min tjener David skal være deres fyrste for alltid.

And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, they, and their children, and their children's children, for ever: and David my servant shall be their prince for ever.

26 Jeg vil inngå en fredspakt med dem, en evig pakt, og jeg vil plassere dem og formere dem, og jeg vil sette min helligdom midt iblant dem for alltid.

Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore.

27 Min bolig skal også være blant dem, og jeg vil være deres Gud, og de skal være mitt folk.

My tabernacle also shall be with them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

28 Da skal nasjonene vite at jeg, Herren, helliger Israel, når min helligdom er midt iblant dem for alltid.

And the nations shall know that I am Jehovah that sanctifieth Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore.
