Da Abram var nittini år gammel, viste Herren seg for ham og sa: Jeg er Gud Den Allmektige; vandre for mitt ansikt og vær fullkommen.

And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, Jehovah appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

Jeg vil gjøre en pakt mellom meg og deg og gjøre din ætt meget tallrik.

And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

Da falt Abram på sitt ansikt, og Gud talte til ham og sa:

And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,

Se, min pakt er med deg, og du skal bli far til mange folkeslag.

As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be the father of a multitude of nations.

Du skal ikke lenger hete Abram, men Abraham skal være ditt navn, for jeg har gjort deg til far for mange folkeslag.

Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for the father of a multitude of nations have I made thee.

Jeg vil gjøre deg overmåte fruktbar, gjøre folkeslag av deg, og konger skal utgå fra deg.

And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.

Jeg vil opprette min pakt mellom meg og deg og din ætt etter deg, fra slekt til slekt, til en evig pakt, for å være Gud for deg og din ætt etter deg.

And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee and to thy seed after thee.

Jeg vil gi deg og din ætt etter deg det land du nå bor i, hele Kanaans land, til evig eiendom, og jeg vil være deres Gud.

And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land of thy sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

Gud sa til Abraham: Du skal holde min pakt, du og din ætt etter deg, fra slekt til slekt.

And God said unto Abraham, And as for thee, thou shalt keep my covenant, thou, and thy seed after thee throughout their generations.

Dette er min pakt som dere skal holde, mellom meg og dere og din ætt etter deg: Alle menn hos dere skal omskjæres.

This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee: every male among you shall be circumcised.

Dere skal omskjæres på deres forhud, og det skal være tegnet på pakten mellom meg og dere.

And ye shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of a covenant betwixt me and you.

Den som er åtte dager gammel skal omskjæres, alle guttebarn i deres slekter, de som er født i huset eller kjøpt for penger av en fremmed, som ikke er av din ætt.

And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every male throughout your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any foreigner that is not of thy seed.

Den som er født i ditt hus, og den som er kjøpt for dine penger, skal omskjæres, og min pakt skal være i deres kropp som en evig pakt.

He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

Den uomskårne mann, som ikke er omskåret på sin forhud, skal støtes ut fra sitt folk; han har brutt min pakt.

And the uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.

Gud sa til Abraham: Din hustru Sarai skal du ikke lenger kalle Sarai, men hennes navn skal være Sara.

And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be.

Jeg vil velsigne henne og gi deg en sønn ved henne; ja, jeg vil velsigne henne, og hun skal bli mor til nasjoner; konger over folk skal stamme fra henne.

And I will bless her, and moreover I will give thee a son of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be `a mother of' nations; kings of peoples shall be of her.

Da falt Abraham på sitt ansikt og lo, og han sa i sitt hjerte: Skal en som er hundre år gammel få barn, og skal Sara, som er nitti år gammel, føde?

Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is a hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?

Abraham sa til Gud: Å, måtte Ismael få leve for ditt ansikt!

And Abraham said unto God, Oh that Ishmael might live before thee!

Gud sa: Nei, men din hustru Sara skal føde deg en sønn, og du skal kalle ham Isak. Jeg vil opprette min pakt med ham som en evig pakt for hans ætt etter ham.

And God said, Nay, but Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his seed after him.

Og når det gjelder Ismael, har jeg hørt deg: Se, jeg har velsignet ham, og vil gjøre ham fruktbar og gjøre ham overmåte tallrik; han skal få tolv høvdinger, og jeg vil gjøre ham til et stort folkeslag.

And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.

Men min pakt vil jeg opprette med Isak, som Sara skal føde deg på denne tiden neste år.

But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.

Da Gud hadde talt ferdig med Abraham, steg han opp fra ham.

And he left off talking with him, and God went up from Abraham.

Samme dag tok Abraham sin sønn Ismael, alle som var født i hans hus, og alle som var kjøpt for hans penger, hver mann blant Abrahams husfolk, og omskar forhuden deres, slik Gud hadde sagt til ham.

And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all that were born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the selfsame day, as God had said unto him.

Abraham var nittini år gammel da han ble omskåret på sin forhud.

And Abraham was ninety years old and nine, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

Ismael, hans sønn, var tretten år gammel da han ble omskåret på sin forhud.

And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

Samme dag ble Abraham omskåret, og Ismael, hans sønn.

In the selfsame day was Abraham circumcised, and Ishmael his son.

Og alle mennene i hans hus, både de som var født i huset og de som var kjøpt for penger av en fremmed, ble omskåret med ham.

And all the men of his house, those born in the house, and those bought with money of a foreigner, were circumcised with him.
