1 I det året da Tartan kom til Ashdod, sendt av Sargon, kongen av Assyria, og han kjempet mot Ashdod og inntok det;

In the year that Tartan came unto Ashdod, when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him, and he fought against Ashdod and took it;

2 på den tiden talte Jehova gjennom Jesaja, sønn av Amos, og sa: Gå og løs sekkeklærne fra hoftene dine og ta av skoen fra foten din. Og han gjorde det, gikk naken og barføtt.

at that time Jehovah spake by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Go, and loose the sackcloth from off thy loins, and put thy shoe from off thy foot. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot.

3 Og Jehova sa: Slik som min tjener Jesaja har gått naken og barføtt i tre år som et tegn og et under for Egypt og Etiopia,

And Jehovah said, Like as my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and a wonder concerning Egypt and concerning Ethiopia;

4 slik skal kongen av Assyria føre bort fangene fra Egypt og de bortførte fra Etiopia, unge og gamle, nakne og barføtte, med avdekket bakdel, til skammen for Egypt.

so shall the king of Assyria lead away the captives of Egypt, and the exiles of Ethiopia, young and old, naked and barefoot, and with buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.

5 Og de skal bli skremt og forvirret over Etiopia, deres håp, og Egypt, deres ære.

And they shall be dismayed and confounded, because of Ethiopia their expectation, and of Egypt their glory.

6 Og den som bor i dette kystlandet skal si den dagen: Se, dette er vårt håp, dit vi flyktet for hjelp for å bli reddet fra kongen av Assyria: og vi, hvordan skal vi unnslippe?

And the inhabitant of this coast-land shall say in that day, Behold, such is our expectation, whither we fled for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria: and we, how shall we escape?
