1 Ordet som kom til Jeremia fra Herren i de dager da Jojakim, sønn av Josjia, var konge i Juda, lyder:

The word which came unto Jeremiah from Jehovah in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying,

2 Gå til rekabittenes hus og tal til dem, og før dem inn i Herrens hus, til en av kamrene, og gi dem vin å drikke.

Go unto the house of the Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of Jehovah, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.

3 Så tok jeg Ja’asanja, Jeremias sønn, sønn av Habassinja, og hans brødre og alle hans sønner, hele rekabittenes hus.

Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brethren, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;

4 Og jeg førte dem inn i Herrens hus, til kammeret til sønnene til Hanan, Igdaljas sønn, Guds mann, som ligger ved siden av kammeret til høvdingene, over kammeret til Ma’aseja, Sjallums sønn, vokteren av dørterskelen.

and I brought them into the house of Jehovah, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, the man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the threshold.

5 Og jeg satte fram for rekabittenes hus boller fulle av vin og kopper; og jeg sa til dem: Drikk vin.

And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites bowls full of wine, and cups; and I said unto them, Drink ye wine.

6 Men de sa: Vi vil ikke drikke vin; for Jonadab, sønn av Rekab, vår far, befalte oss og sa: Dere skal aldri drikke vin, verken dere eller deres sønner, til evig tid.

But they said, We will drink no wine; for Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons, for ever:

7 Dere skal heller ikke bygge hus, så sæd eller plante vingård, eller eie noe av dette; men alle deres dager skal dere bo i telt, for at dere skal leve lenge i det landet hvor dere oppholder dere.

neither shall ye build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any; but all your days ye shall dwell in tents; that ye may live many days in the land wherein ye sojourn.

8 Og vi har etterfulgt Jonadab, Rekabs sønn, vår fars stemme, i alt han befalte oss, å ikke drikke vin alle våre dager, vi, våre hustruer, våre sønner eller våre døtre,

And we have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, in all that he charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, or our daughters;

9 og heller ikke bygge hus til å bo i; heller ikke har vi vingård, mark eller såkorn.

nor to build houses for us to dwell in; neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:

10 Men vi har bodd i telt, og vi har lydt og gjort i alle ting som Jonadab, vår far, befalte oss.

but we have dwelt in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.

11 Men da Nebukadnesar, Babylons konge, kom opp mot landet, sa vi: Kom, la oss dra inn i Jerusalem av frykt for kaldéernes hær og syrernes hær; så vi bor i Jerusalem.

But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians; so we dwell at Jerusalem.

12 Da kom Herrens ord til Jeremia og sa:

Then came the word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah, saying,

13 Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Gå og si til Judas menn og Jerusalems innbyggere: Vil dere ikke ta imot rettledning og lytte til mine ord? sier Herren.

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Go, and say to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will ye not receive instruction to hearken to my words? saith Jehovah.

14 Jonadab, sønn av Rekab, befalte sine sønner å ikke drikke vin, og det har de holdt. Til denne dag har de ikke drukket, fordi de har adlydt sin fars befaling. Men jeg har talt til dere tidlig og sent, men dere har ikke hørt på meg.

The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed; and unto this day they drink none, for they obey their father's commandment: but I have spoken unto you, rising up early and speaking; and ye have not hearkened unto me.

15 Jeg har også sendt alle mine tjenere, profetene, og sagt idet jeg sendte dem tidlig: Vend nå hver av dere om fra deres onde vei, bedrer deres gjerninger og følg ikke andre guder for å tjene dem, så skal dere få bo i det landet jeg har gitt dere og deres fedre. Men dere har ikke vendt øret til, og dere har ikke hørt på meg.

I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto me.

16 Siden Jonadabs, Rekabs sønns, sønner har holdt sin fars befaling, mens dette folket ikke har hørt på meg,

Forasmuch as the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father which he commanded them, but this people hath not hearkened unto me;

17 så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Se, jeg vil føre over Juda og alle Jerusalems innbyggere alt det onde jeg har talt mot dem, fordi jeg har talt til dem, men de har ikke lyttet; jeg har kalt på dem, men de har ikke svart.

therefore thus saith Jehovah, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them; because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard; and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.

18 Og Jeremia sa til rekabittenes hus: Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Fordi dere har adlydt Jonadab, deres far, og fulgt alle hans forskrifter og gjort alt han befalte dere,

And Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he commanded you;

19 så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Jonadab, Rekabs sønn, skal aldri mangle en mann til å stå for meg til evig tid.

therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever.
