1 Det skjedde i det fjerde året av Jojakim, sønn av Josjia, kongen av Juda, at dette ordet kom til Jeremia fra Herren, som sa:

And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,

2 Ta deg en bokrull og skriv ned alle ordene jeg har talt til deg mot Israel, Juda og alle nasjonene, fra den dagen jeg talte til deg, fra Josjias dager til denne dag.

Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.

3 Kanskje vil Judas hus høre om alt det onde jeg vil gjøre mot dem, slik at hver mann kan vende om fra sin onde vei, og jeg kan tilgi deres misgjerning og synd.

It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

4 Da kalte Jeremia til seg Baruk, sønn av Neria, og Baruk skrev på en bokrull alle Herrens ord som Jeremia hadde talt til ham.

Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah; and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of Jehovah, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.

5 Og Jeremia befalte Baruk og sa: Jeg er sperret inne; jeg kan ikke gå inn i Herrens hus.

And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of Jehovah:

6 Derfor gå du og les opp fra rullen, som du har skrevet ned fra min munn, Herrens ord for folket i Herrens hus på fastedagen; og du skal også lese dem for hele Juda som kommer ut fra byene sine.

therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of Jehovah in the ears of the people in Jehovah's house upon the fast-day; and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.

7 Kanskje vil de fremføre sin bønn for Herren og vende om fra sin onde vei, for stor er den vrede og harme som Herren har forkynt mot dette folket.

It may be they will present their supplication before Jehovah, and will return every one from his evil way; for great is the anger and the wrath that Jehovah hath pronounced against this people.

8 Og Baruk, sønn av Neria, gjorde alt som profeten Jeremia hadde befalt ham, og leste fra boken Herrens ord i Herrens hus.

And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of Jehovah in Jehovah's house.

9 Og det skjedde i det femte året av Jojakim, sønn av Josjia, kongen av Juda, i den niende måneden, at hele folket i Jerusalem og alle som kom fra byene i Juda til Jerusalem erklærte en faste for Herren.

Now it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, that all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem, proclaimed a fast before Jehovah.

10 Da leste Baruk i boken ordene fra Jeremia i Herrens hus, i rommet til Gemarja, sønn av Sjafan, skriveren, i den øvre forgården, ved inngangen til den nye porten til Herrens hus, for ørene til hele folket.

Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan, the scribe, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of Jehovah's house, in the ears of all the people.

11 Og da Mika, sønn av Gemarja, sønn av Sjafan, hadde hørt alle ordene fra Herren fra boken,

And when Micaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of Jehovah,

12 gikk han ned til kongens hus, til skriverens kammer; og se, der satt alle fyrstene, Elisjama, skriveren, Delaja, sønn av Sjemaia, Elnatan, sønn av Akbor, Gemarja, sønn av Sjafan, og Sidkia, sønn av Hananja, og alle fyrstene.

he went down into the king's house, into the scribe's chamber: and, lo, all the princes were sitting there, `to wit', Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

13 Da forkynte Mika for dem alle ordene som han hadde hørt, da Baruk leste boken for folkets ører.

Then Micaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.

14 Derfor sendte alle fyrstene Jehudi, sønn av Netanja, sønn av Sjellemja, sønn av Kusi, til Baruk og sa: Ta med deg rullen som du har lest for folkets ører, og kom hit. Så tok Baruk, sønn av Neria, rullen med seg og kom til dem.

Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thy hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.

15 Og de sa til ham: Sett deg ned nå, og les den for våre ører. Så leste Baruk den for deres ører.

And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears.

16 Og det skjedde, da de hadde hørt alle ordene, vendte de seg i frykt mot hverandre og sa til Baruk: Vi må fortelle kongen om alle disse ordene.

Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they turned in fear one toward another, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.

17 Og de spurte Baruk og sa: Fortell oss nå, hvordan skrev du alle disse ordene fra hans munn?

And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth?

18 Da svarte Baruk dem: Han uttalte alle disse ordene til meg med sin munn, og jeg skrev dem ned med blekk i boken.

Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.

19 Da sa fyrstene til Baruk: Gå og gjem deg, du og Jeremia; og la ingen vite hvor dere er.

Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye are.

20 Og de gikk inn til kongen i gårdsplassen; men de hadde lagt rullen i Elisjamas skriverkammer; og de fortalte om alle ordene for kongens ører.

And they went in to the king into the court; but they had laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe; and they told all the words in the ears of the king.

21 Så sendte kongen Jehudi for å hente rullen; og han tok den ut av Elisjamas skriverkammer. Og Jehudi leste den for kongens ører og for alle fyrstene som sto ved siden av kongen.

So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll; and he took it out of the chamber of Elishama the scribe. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes that stood beside the king.

22 Kongen satt i vinterhuset i den niende måneden, og det var en ild som brente i ildgryten foran ham.

Now the king was sitting in the winter-house in the ninth month: and `there was a fire in' the brazier burning before him.

23 Og det skjedde, da Jehudi hadde lest tre eller fire blad, at kongen skar den i stykker med pennen og kastet den i ilden som var i ildgryten, til hele rullen var fortært av ilden som var i ildgryten.

And it came to pass, when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, that `the king' cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier.

24 Og de ble ikke redde, heller ikke rev de klærne sine, verken kongen eller noen av hans tjenere som hadde hørt alle disse ordene.

And they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.

25 Også Elnatan, Delaja og Gemarja gjorde forbønn til kongen om at han ikke skulle brenne rullen, men han lyttet ikke til dem.

Moreover Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll; but he would not hear them.

26 Og kongen befalte Jerahmel, kongens sønn, og Seraja, sønn av Asriel, og Sjellemja, sønn av Abdeel, å ta Baruk, skriveren, og Jeremia, profeten; men Herren gjemte dem.

And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king's son, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but Jehovah hid them.

27 Da kom Herrens ord til Jeremia, etter at kongen hadde brent rullen med ordene som Baruk hadde skrevet fra Jeremias munn, og han sa:

Then the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,

28 Ta deg igjen en annen rull og skriv alle de tidligere ordene som var i den første rullen, som Jojakim, kongen av Juda, har brent.

Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.

29 Og angående Jojakim, kongen av Juda, skal du si: Så sier Herren: Du har brent denne rullen, og sagt: Hvorfor har du skrevet i den at Babylons konge sikkert skal komme og ødelegge dette landet og gjøre ende på både mennesker og dyr der?

And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah thou shalt say, Thus saith Jehovah: Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?

30 Derfor sier Herren om Jojakim, kongen av Juda: Han skal ikke ha noen som sitter på Davids trone, og hans døde kropp skal bli kastet ut i varmen om dagen og frosten om natten.

Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David; and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.

31 Og jeg vil straffe ham og hans etterkommere og hans tjenere for deres misgjerning; og jeg vil bringe over dem, og over Jerusalems innbyggere, og over Judas menn, alt det onde jeg har forkynt mot dem, men de lyttet ikke.

And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they hearkened not.

32 Så tok Jeremia en annen rull og ga den til Baruk, skriveren, sønn av Neria, som skrev på den fra Jeremias munn alle ordene fra boken som Jojakim, kongen av Juda, hadde brent i ilden, og det ble føyd til mange lignende ord.

Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and there were added besides unto them many like words.
