1 Og ordet fra Herren, hærskarenes Gud, kom til meg og sa:

And the word of Jehovah of hosts came `to me', saying,

2 Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Jeg er nidkjær for Sion med stor iver, og jeg er harm for hennes skyld.

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: I am jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I am jealous for her with great wrath.

3 Så sier Herren: Jeg har vendt tilbake til Sion og vil bo midt i Jerusalem. Og Jerusalem skal kalles Sannhetens by, og Herrens, hærskarenes Guds fjell, Det hellige fjell.

Thus saith Jehovah: I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called The city of truth; and the mountain of Jehovah of hosts, The holy mountain.

4 Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Gamle menn og kvinner skal igjen sitte på Jerusalems gater, hver med sin stav i hånden på grunn av sin høye alder.

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, every man with his staff in his hand for very age.

5 Og byens gater skal fylles med gutter og jenter som leker der.

And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof.

6 Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Om det er forunderlig i restene av dette folkets øyne i de dager, skal det også være forunderlig i mine øyne? sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud.

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days, should it also be marvellous in mine eyes? saith Jehovah of hosts.

7 Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Se, jeg vil frelse mitt folk fra landene i øst og vest.

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country;

8 Og jeg vil føre dem tilbake, og de skal bo midt i Jerusalem. De skal være mitt folk, og jeg vil være deres Gud, i sannhet og rettferdighet.

and I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem; and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.

9 Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Vær sterke til hender, dere som hører disse ord i disse dager fra profetenes munn, de som var der da grunnsteinen til Herrens, hærskarenes Guds hus ble lagt, tempelet, for at det skulle bygges.

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Let your hands be strong, ye that hear in these days these words from the mouth of the prophets that were in the day that the foundation of the house of Jehovah of hosts was laid, even the temple, that it might be built.

10 For før de dagene var det ingen lønn for mennesker, ei heller for dyr. Ingen hadde fred fra fienden når de gikk ut eller kom inn, for jeg satte alle mennesker opp mot hverandre.

For before those days there was no hire for man, nor any hire for beast; neither was there any peace to him that went out or came in, because of the adversary: for I set all men every one against his neighbor.

11 Men nå vil jeg ikke være mot restene av dette folket som i tidligere dager, sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud.

But now I will not be unto the remnant of this people as in the former days, saith Jehovah of hosts.

12 For det skal bli fredens såkorn. Vintreet skal bære sin frukt og jorden gi sin grøde, og himmelen skal gi dugg. Og jeg vil gi restene av dette folket alt dette i arv.

For `there shall be' the seed of peace; the vine shall give its fruit, and the ground shall give its increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to inherit all these things.

13 Og det skal skje at som dere var en forbannelse blant folkene, dere av Juda og Israel, så skal jeg frelse dere, og dere skal bli en velsignelse. Frykt ikke, men la hendene være sterke.

And it shall come to pass that, as ye were a curse among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel, so will I save you, and ye shall be a blessing. Fear not, `but' let your hands be strong.

14 For slik sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Som jeg tenkte å gjøre ondt mot dere da deres fedre vakte min vrede, sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, og jeg omvendte meg ikke,

For thus saith Jehovah of hosts: As I thought to do evil unto you, when your fathers provoked me to wrath, saith Jehovah of hosts, and I repented not;

15 slik har jeg nå i disse dager tenkt å gjøre godt mot Jerusalem og Judas hus. Frykt ikke.

so again have I thought in these days to do good unto Jerusalem and to the house of Judah: fear ye not.

16 Dette er de tingene dere skal gjøre: Tal sannhet med hverandre, døm med rettferdighet og fred ved deres porter.

These are the things that ye shall do: speak ye every man the truth with his neighbor; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates;

17 La ingen av dere planlegge ondt i sitt hjerte mot sin nabo, og elsk ikke falske eder. For alt dette hater jeg, sier Herren.

and let none of you devise evil in your hearts against his neighbor; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith Jehovah.

18 Og ordet fra Herren, hærskarenes Gud, kom til meg og sa:

And the word of Jehovah of hosts came unto me, saying,

19 Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Fastene i den fjerde måned, den femte, den sjuende og den tiende skal bli glede og fest i Judas hus. Elsk derfor sannhet og fred.

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: The fast of the fourth `month', and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love truth and peace.

20 Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Det skal skje at folkeslag og beboerne i mange byer skal komme.

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: `It shall' yet `come to pass', that there shall come peoples, and the inhabitants of many cities;

21 Og innbyggerne i én by skal gå til en annen by og si: La oss skynde oss for å søke Herrens nåde og søke Herren, hærskarenes Gud. Jeg vil også gå.

and the inhabitants of one `city' shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to entreat the favor of Jehovah, and to seek Jehovah of hosts: I will go also.

22 Ja, mange folkeslag og sterke nasjoner skal komme for å søke Herren, hærskarenes Gud, i Jerusalem, og for å be om Herrens nåde.

Yea, many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek Jehovah of hosts in Jerusalem, and to entreat the favor of Jehovah.

23 Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: På den tid skal ti menn fra alle nasjonenes språk ta tak i kappen til en jøde og si: Vi vil gå med dere, for vi har hørt at Gud er med dere.

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: In those days `it shall come to pass', that ten men shall take hold, out of all the languages of the nations, they shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.
