Verse 1

After this, David defeated the Philistines, subdued them, and took Gath and its surrounding villages from the control of the Philistines.

Now after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and her towns out of the hand of the Philistines.

Verse 2

David also defeated Moab, and the Moabites became his servants, bringing him tribute.

And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became David's servants, and brought gifts.

Verse 3

David defeated Hadadezer, king of Zobah, near Hamath when Hadadezer went to establish his control over the Euphrates River.

And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah unto Hamath, as he went to stablish his dominion by the river Euphrates.

Verse 4

David captured 1,000 chariots, 7,000 horsemen, and 20,000 foot soldiers from Hadadezer. He hamstrung all the chariot horses but kept enough for 100 chariots.

And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: David also houghed all the chariot horses, but reserved of them an hundred chariots.

Verse 5

When the Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer, king of Zobah, David struck down 22,000 of them.

And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.

Verse 6

David stationed garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became his servants, bringing him tribute. The Lord gave victory to David wherever he went.

Then David put garrisons in Syriadamascus; and the Syrians became David's servants, and brought gifts. Thus the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

Verse 7

David took the gold shields carried by the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.

And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadarezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.

Verse 8

From Tibhath and Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David took a great amount of bronze. With it, Solomon made the bronze sea, the pillars, and other bronze articles.

Likewise from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, brought David very much brass, wherewith Solomon made the brasen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.

Verse 9

When Tou, king of Hamath, heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer, king of Zobah,

Now when Tou king of Hamath heard how David had smitten all the host of Hadarezer king of Zobah;

Verse 10

he sent his son Hadoram to King David to greet him and bless him for fighting and defeating Hadadezer, who had been at war with Tou. Hadoram brought with him articles of gold, silver, and bronze.

He sent Hadoram his son to king David, to enquire of his welfare, and to congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadarezer, and smitten him; (for Hadarezer had war with Tou;) and with him all manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass.

Verse 11

King David dedicated these items to the Lord, along with the silver and gold he had taken from all the nations, including Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and Amalek.

Them also king David dedicated unto the LORD, with the silver and the gold that he brought from all these nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.

Verse 12

Abishai son of Zeruiah struck down 18,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt.

Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah slew of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen thousand.

Verse 13

David stationed garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became his servants. The Lord gave David victory wherever he went.

And he put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became David's servants. Thus the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

Verse 14

David reigned over all Israel, and he administered justice and righteousness for all his people.

So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people.

Verse 15

Joab son of Zeruiah was in charge of the army, and Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was the recorder.

And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, recorder.

Verse 16

Zadok son of Ahitub and Abimelech son of Abiathar were priests, and Shavsha was the scribe.

And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Abimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Shavsha was scribe;

Verse 17

Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and David's sons were chief advisors to the king.

And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were chief about the king.
