Verse 1

When the queen of Sheba heard of Solomon's fame, she came to test Solomon with hard questions in Jerusalem. She arrived with a very large entourage, including camels carrying spices, a great quantity of gold, and precious stones. She came to Solomon and spoke with him about everything that was on her mind.

And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to prove Solomon with hard questions at Jerusalem, with a very great company, and camels that bare spices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.

Verse 2

Solomon answered all her questions; there was nothing too difficult for Solomon to explain to her.

And Solomon told her all her questions: and there was nothing hid from Solomon which he told her not.

Verse 3

When the queen of Sheba saw the wisdom of Solomon and the house he had built,

And when the queen of Sheba had seen the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he had built,

Verse 4

the food on his table, the seating of his servants, the organization of his officials, and their clothing, as well as his cupbearers and the ascent by which he went up to the house of the LORD, she was breathless.

And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel; his cupbearers also, and their apparel; and his ascent by which he went up into the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her.

Verse 5

She said to the king, "The report I heard in my own land about your words and your wisdom is true.

And she said to the king, It was a true report which I heard in mine own land of thine acts, and of thy wisdom:

Verse 6

But I did not believe what they said until I came and saw it with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half of your great wisdom was told to me; you have far exceeded the report I heard.

Howbeit I believed not their words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the one half of the greatness of thy wisdom was not told me: for thou exceedest the fame that I heard.

Verse 7

How blessed are your men, and how blessed are these servants who stand continually before you and hear your wisdom!

Happy are thy men, and happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and hear thy wisdom.

Verse 8

May the LORD your God be praised! He delighted in you and placed you on his throne as king for the LORD your God. Because of His love for Israel and His desire to uphold them forever, He has made you king over them to govern with justice and righteousness.

Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee to set thee on his throne, to be king for the LORD thy God: because thy God loved Israel, to establish them for ever, therefore made he thee king over them, to do judgment and justice.

Verse 9

Then she gave the king a hundred twenty talents of gold, a great quantity of spices, and precious stones. There had never been such spices as those the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.

And she gave the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices great abundance, and precious stones: neither was there any such spice as the queen of Sheba gave king Solomon.

Verse 10

Moreover, the servants of Huram and the servants of Solomon, who had brought gold from Ophir, also brought algum wood and precious stones.

And the servants also of Huram, and the servants of Solomon, which brought gold from Ophir, brought algum trees and precious stones.

Verse 11

The king made the algum wood into steps for the house of the LORD and the king's palace, also harps and lyres for the singers. Nothing like them had ever been seen before in the land of Judah.

And the king made of the algum trees terraces to the house of the LORD, and to the king's palace, and harps and psalteries for singers: and there were none such seen before in the land of Judah.

Verse 12

King Solomon gave the queen of Sheba all she desired and asked for, in addition to what she had brought to the king. Then she turned and went back to her own land with her servants.

And king Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatsoever she asked, beside that which she had brought unto the king. So she turned, and went away to her own land, she and her servants.

Verse 13

The weight of the gold that came to Solomon annually was six hundred sixty-six talents,

Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred and threescore and six talents of gold;

Verse 14

not counting what the merchants and traders brought. All the kings of Arabia and the governors of the land also brought gold and silver to Solomon.

Beside that which chapmen and merchants brought. And all the kings of Arabia and governors of the country brought gold and silver to Solomon.

Verse 15

King Solomon made two hundred large shields of hammered gold; each shield needed six hundred shekels of hammered gold.

And king Solomon made two hundred targets of beaten gold: six hundred shekels of beaten gold went to one target.

Verse 16

He also made three hundred small shields of hammered gold, with three hundred shekels of gold in each shield. The king put them in the House of the Forest of Lebanon.

And three hundred shields made he of beaten gold: three hundred shekels of gold went to one shield. And the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.

Verse 17

The king made a great ivory throne and overlaid it with pure gold.

Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with pure gold.

Verse 18

The throne had six steps, and a gold footstool was attached to it. There were armrests on both sides of the seat, with two lions standing beside the armrests.

And there were six steps to the throne, with a footstool of gold, which were fastened to the throne, and stays on each side of the sitting place, and two lions standing by the stays:

Verse 19

Twelve lions stood on the six steps, one at each end of a step. Nothing like it had ever been made for any kingdom.

And twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other upon the six steps. There was not the like made in any kingdom.

Verse 20

All King Solomon’s drinking vessels were gold, and all the utensils of the House of the Forest of Lebanon were pure gold. Silver was not considered valuable in Solomon’s days.

And all the drinking vessels of king Solomon were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold: none were of silver; it was not any thing accounted of in the days of Solomon.

Verse 21

The king's ships, operated with Huram’s servants, went to Tarshish once every three years. They brought back gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks.

For the king's ships went to Tarshish with the servants of Huram: every three years once came the ships of Tarshish bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.

Verse 22

King Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the kings of the earth.

And king Solomon passed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.

Verse 23

All the kings of the earth sought an audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart.

And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, that God had put in his heart.

Verse 24

Each year, men brought their gifts to Solomon: articles of silver and gold, robes, weapons, spices, horses, and mules.

And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and raiment, harness, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year.

Verse 25

Solomon had four thousand stalls for horses and chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, whom he stationed in the chariot cities and also with him in Jerusalem.

And Solomon had four thousand stalls for horses and chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen; whom he bestowed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.

Verse 26

He ruled over all the kings from the Euphrates River to the land of the Philistines and as far as the border of Egypt.

And he reigned over all the kings from the river even unto the land of the Philistines, and to the border of Egypt.

Verse 27

The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones, and he made cedar as plentiful as sycamore trees in the foothills.

And the king made silver in Jerusalem as stones, and cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the low plains in abundance.

Verse 28

Horses were imported for Solomon from Egypt and from all other lands.

And they brought unto Solomon horses out of Egypt, and out of all lands.

Verse 29

The rest of the events of Solomon's reign, from beginning to end, are written in the records of Nathan the prophet, in the prophecy of Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of Iddo the seer concerning Jeroboam son of Nebat.

Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, first and last, are they not written in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the prophecy of Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of Iddo the seer against Jeroboam the son of Nebat?

Verse 30

Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel for forty years.

And Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years.

Verse 31

Then Solomon rested with his ancestors and was buried in the city of David his father. Rehoboam his son succeeded him as king.

And Solomon slept with his fathers, and he was buried in the city of David his father: and Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead.
