2 Corinthians 2

1 I decided this for myself: that I would not come to you again in sorrow.

But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness.

2 For if I grieve you, who then will make me glad but the one who is grieved by me?

For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?

3 I wrote this very thing to you so that when I came, I would not have sorrow from those who ought to bring me joy. I have confidence in all of you, that my joy is your joy.

And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.

4 For out of great distress and anguish of heart, I wrote to you with many tears, not to grieve you but to let you know the love I have for you more abundantly.

For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.

5 Now if anyone has caused sorrow, they have not grieved me alone but to some degree—not to overburden you—they have grieved all of you.

But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.

6 The punishment imposed by the majority is sufficient for such a person.

Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.

7 Instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.

So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.

8 Therefore, I urge you to reaffirm your love for him.

Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.

9 For this reason, I also wrote to you, to test you and see if you are obedient in everything.

For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.

10 Anyone you forgive, I also forgive. And what I have forgiven—if I have forgiven anything—it has been for your benefit in the presence of Christ.

To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;

11 So that we may not be outwitted by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes.

Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

12 When I came to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ, and a door was opened for me in the Lord,

Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord,

13 I had no peace in my spirit because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I said goodbye to them and went on to Macedonia.

I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went from thence into Macedonia.

14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us in Christ’s triumphal procession and manifests the aroma of the knowledge of Him through us in every place.

Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

15 For we are the fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.

For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:

16 To one, we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is adequate for such a task?

To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

17 For we are not like many, peddling the word of God for profit. Instead, with sincerity, as sent from God and in His presence, we speak in Christ.

For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
