Verse 1

The words of Amos, who was among the sheep breeders from Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel during the days of Uzziah, king of Judah, and during the days of Jeroboam, son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

Verse 2

He said: 'The LORD roars from Zion, and from Jerusalem He raises His voice; the pastures of the shepherds mourn, and the summit of Carmel withers.'

And he said, The LORD will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither.

Verse 3

Thus says the LORD: 'For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not revoke punishment, because they threshed Gilead with sharp implements of iron.'

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron:

Verse 4

So I will send fire upon the house of Hazael, and it will consume the palaces of Ben-Hadad.

But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall devour the palaces of Benhadad.

Verse 5

I will break the bars of Damascus, cut off the inhabitants from the Valley of Aven, and the one who holds the scepter from Beth-Eden; the people of Aram will go into exile to Kir,' says the LORD.

I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the LORD.

Verse 6

Thus says the LORD: 'For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not revoke punishment, because they deported an entire population to deliver them over to Edom.'

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom:

Verse 7

So I will send fire upon the wall of Gaza, and it will consume her palaces.

But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof:

Verse 8

'I will cut off the inhabitants from Ashdod, and the one who holds the scepter from Ashkelon; I will turn My hand against Ekron, and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish,' says the Lord GOD.

And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn mine hand against Ekron: and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord GOD.

Verse 9

Thus says the LORD: 'For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four, I will not revoke punishment, because they delivered up an entire population to Edom and did not remember their treaty of brotherhood.'

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant:

Verse 10

So I will send fire upon the wall of Tyre, and it will consume her palaces.

But I will send a fire on the wall of Tyrus, which shall devour the palaces thereof.

Verse 11

Thus says the LORD: 'For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not revoke punishment, because he pursued his brother with the sword and suppressed compassion. His anger tore continually, and his wrath remained forever.'

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever:

Verse 12

So I will send fire upon Teman, and it will consume the palaces of Bozrah.

But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.

Verse 13

Thus says the LORD: 'For three transgressions of the Ammonites, and for four, I will not revoke punishment, because they ripped open pregnant women in Gilead in order to enlarge their territory.'

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border:

Verse 14

So I will set fire to the wall of Rabbah, and it will consume her palaces amid shouting on the day of battle, with a tempest on the day of the whirlwind.

But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind:

Verse 15

Their king will go into exile, he and his princes together,' says the LORD.

And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith the LORD.
