Verse 1

When the LORD your God brings you into the land that you are entering to take possession of, and He drives out many nations before you—the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites—seven nations more numerous and stronger than you,

When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;

Verse 2

and when the LORD your God delivers them over to you and you defeat them, you must devote them to complete destruction. Do not make a covenant with them or show them any mercy.

And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:

Verse 3

Do not intermarry with them: do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons,

Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.

Verse 4

because they will turn your sons away from following Me to serve other gods. Then the LORD's anger will burn against you, and He will quickly destroy you.

For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.

Verse 5

Instead, this is what you must do to them: Tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, chop down their Asherah poles, and burn their carved images with fire.

But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.

Verse 6

For you are a holy people to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be His treasured possession out of all the peoples on the face of the earth.

For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

Verse 7

The LORD did not set His affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples.

The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:

Verse 8

But because the LORD loved you and kept the oath He swore to your ancestors, He brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

Verse 9

Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of steadfast love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commandments.

Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

Verse 10

But He repays those who hate Him to their face to destroy them. He will not delay to repay those who hate Him; He will repay them to their face.

And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face.

Verse 11

Therefore, you shall keep the commandment, the statutes, and the ordinances that I am giving you today to follow.

Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.

Verse 12

And it will happen that because you listen to these ordinances, and keep and obey them, the LORD your God will keep with you the covenant and the steadfast love that He swore to your ancestors.

Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:

Verse 13

He will love you and bless you and multiply you. He will bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your land—your grain, your new wine, and your fresh oil—the young of your livestock and the calves of your herds in the land that He swore to your ancestors to give you.

And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.

Verse 14

You will be blessed above all peoples; there will be no barrenness among you, whether in men, women, or your livestock.

Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.

Verse 15

The LORD will remove all sickness from you. He will not inflict on you the terrible diseases of Egypt that you knew, but He will lay them on all who hate you.

And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.

Verse 16

You shall destroy all the nations the LORD your God is giving over to you. Do not look on them with pity, and do not serve their gods, for that would be a snare to you.

And thou shalt consume all the people which the LORD thy God shall deliver thee; thine eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto thee.

Verse 17

If you say in your heart, 'These nations are too numerous for me; how can I drive them out?'

If thou shalt say in thine heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?

Verse 18

Do not be afraid of them. Remember well what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and all Egypt—

Thou shalt not be afraid of them: but shalt well remember what the LORD thy God did unto Pharaoh, and unto all Egypt;

Verse 19

the great trials that your eyes saw, the signs, the wonders, the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm by which the LORD your God brought you out. The LORD your God will do the same to all the peoples you fear.

The great temptations which thine eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the stretched out arm, whereby the LORD thy God brought thee out: so shall the LORD thy God do unto all the people of whom thou art afraid.

Verse 20

Moreover, the LORD your God will send the hornet among them until those who are left and hiding from you perish.

Moreover the LORD thy God will send the hornet among them, until they that are left, and hide themselves from thee, be destroyed.

Verse 21

Do not be terrified by them, for the LORD your God, who is among you, is a great and awesome God.

Thou shalt not be affrighted at them: for the LORD thy God is among you, a mighty God and terrible.

Verse 22

The LORD your God will drive out those nations before you little by little. You will not be able to destroy them all at once, or the wild animals will multiply around you.

And the LORD thy God will put out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.

Verse 23

But the LORD your God will deliver them over to you, throwing them into great panic until they are destroyed.

But the LORD thy God shall deliver them unto thee, and shall destroy them with a mighty destruction, until they be destroyed.

Verse 24

He will hand their kings over to you, and you will wipe out their names from under the heavens. No one will be able to stand against you until you have destroyed them.

And he shall deliver their kings into thine hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, until thou have destroyed them.

Verse 25

You must burn the carved images of their gods in the fire. Do not covet the silver or gold on them, and do not take it for yourself, or you will be ensnared by it. For it is detestable to the LORD your God.

The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God.

Verse 26

Do not bring any detestable thing into your house, or you will be set apart for destruction just like it. Utterly detest and abhor it, for it is set apart for destruction.

Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.
