Isaiah 45

1 This is what the LORD says to His anointed one, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have strengthened to subdue nations before him and to strip kings of their armor, to open doors before him so that gates will not be shut.

Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;

2 I will go before you and level the mountains; I will break down the gates of bronze and cut through the bars of iron.

I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:

3 I will give you treasures hidden in darkness, and riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who calls you by name.

And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.

4 For the sake of my servant Jacob and Israel, my chosen one, I have called you by name and given you a title of honor, though you do not know me.

For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.

5 I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you do not acknowledge me.

I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:

6 So that from the rising of the sun to its setting, people may know there is none besides me. I am the LORD, and there is no other.

That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.

7 I form the light and create darkness; I make peace and create calamity. I, the LORD, do all these things.

I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

8 Rain down, heavens, from above, and let the clouds pour out righteousness; let the earth open up and salvation spring forth, together with righteousness. I, the LORD, have created it.

Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it.

9 Woe to those who strive with their Maker, like a piece of pottery among the potsherds of the earth! Shall the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you making?’ or ‘Your work has no handles’?

Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?

10 Woe to those who say to a father, ‘What have you begotten?’ or to a mother, ‘What have you brought forth?’

Woe unto him that saith unto his father, What begettest thou? or to the woman, What hast thou brought forth?

11 This is what the LORD, the Holy One of Israel and its Maker, says: ‘Concerning things to come, ask me, and concerning my children and the work of my hands, you command me?’

Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.

12 I made the earth and created mankind upon it. My own hands stretched out the heavens, and I commanded their hosts.

I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.

13 I have raised him up in righteousness and I will make all his ways straight. He will rebuild my city and set my exiles free, not for a price or reward, says the LORD of Hosts.

I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let go my captives, not for price nor reward, saith the LORD of hosts.

14 This is what the LORD says: The wealth of Egypt, the merchandise of Cush, and the tall Sabeans will come over to you and become yours. They will walk behind you, coming in chains. They will bow down to you and plead with you, saying, 'Surely God is with you, and there is no other; there is no other God.'

Thus saith the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God.

15 Truly, you are a God who hides Himself, O God of Israel, the Savior.

Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.

16 They will all be ashamed and humiliated, all of them will walk in disgrace—the makers of idols.

They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: they shall go to confusion together that are makers of idols.

17 But Israel will be saved by the LORD with an everlasting salvation. You will never be put to shame or humiliated, to all eternity.

But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.

18 For this is what the LORD says—He who created the heavens, He is God, He who formed the earth and made it, He established it, He did not create it to be empty but formed it to be inhabited—He says: 'I am the LORD, and there is no other.'

For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.

19 I have not spoken in secret, in a land of darkness; I have not said to Jacob's descendants, 'Seek me in vain.' I, the LORD, speak the truth and declare what is right.

I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.

20 Gather together and come; assemble, you fugitives from the nations. Ignorant are those who carry about idols of wood, who pray to gods that cannot save.

Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save.

21 Declare and present your case; let them take counsel together. Who foretold this long ago? Who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the LORD? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none besides me.

Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.

22 Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.

Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.

23 By myself I have sworn; my mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked: Before me every knee will bow, by me every tongue will swear.

I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

24 They will say of me, 'In the LORD alone are righteousness and strength.' All who have raged against Him will come to Him and be put to shame.

Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed.

25 But in the LORD all the descendants of Israel will be justified and will boast.

In the LORD shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.
