Verse 1

The message that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch son of Neriah, when he wrote these words in a scroll at Jeremiah's dictation, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah:

The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,

Verse 2

This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says to you, Baruch:

Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto thee, O Baruch;

Verse 3

You have said, 'Woe to me! The LORD has added sorrow to my pain. I am worn out from my groaning, and I find no rest.'

Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for the LORD hath added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.

Verse 4

The LORD said, 'This is what you are to say to him: Behold, what I have built I am tearing down, and what I have planted I am uprooting—the entire land.'

Thus shalt thou say unto him, The LORD saith thus; Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up, even this whole land.

Verse 5

And you, are you seeking great things for yourself? Do not seek them, for behold, I am bringing disaster on all humanity,' declares the LORD, 'but I will give you your life as a prize of war wherever you go.'

And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the LORD: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.
