1 The LORD answered Job and said:

Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said,

2 Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? Let the one who argues with God answer.

Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.

3 Then Job answered the LORD and said:

4 Behold, I am insignificant. What can I reply to You? I place my hand over my mouth.

Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.

5 I have spoken once, but I will not answer; twice, but I will say no more.

Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.

6 Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm and said:

Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

7 Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall inform Me.

Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

8 Would you indeed annul My justice? Would you condemn Me that you may be justified?

Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?

9 Do you have an arm like God's, and can your voice thunder like His?

Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

10 Adorn yourself with majesty and dignity; clothe yourself with glory and splendor.

Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.

11 Scatter the outbursts of your anger, and look at every proud one and bring him low.

Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him.

12 Look at every proud person and humble him, and crush the wicked where they stand.

Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.

13 Bury them together in the dust; bind their faces in the hidden place.

Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.

14 Then I will also praise you, that your own right hand can save you.

Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.

15 Behold now, Behemoth, which I made along with you; he eats grass like an ox.

Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.

16 Behold, his strength is in his loins, and his power is in the muscles of his belly.

Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.

17 He stiffens his tail like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are tightly knit.

He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.

18 His bones are like tubes of bronze; his limbs are like rods of iron.

His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.

19 He is the first of God’s works; only his Maker can approach him with His sword.

He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.

20 For the mountains bring forth food for him, where all the wild animals play.

Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.

21 Under the lotus trees he lies down, hidden among the reeds and marshes.

He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.

22 The lotus trees conceal him in their shade; the willows of the brook surround him.

The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.

23 If the river roars, he is not alarmed; he is confident, even when the Jordan rushes against his mouth.

Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.

24 Can anyone capture him by his eyes or pierce his nose with snares?

He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.

25 Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook or tie down his tongue with a rope?

26 Can you put a cord through his nose or pierce his jaw with a hook?

27 Will he make many pleas to you? Will he speak to you with gentle words?

28 Will he make a covenant with you to take him as your servant forever?

29 Will you play with him like a bird, or tie him up for your young girls?

30 Will traders bargain over him? Will they divide him up among the merchants?

31 Can you fill his skin with harpoons or his head with fishing spears?

32 Lay your hand on him; remember the battle—you will not do it again!
