Verse 1

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying:

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Verse 2

Speak to the Israelites and tell them: 'I am the LORD your God.'

Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, I am the LORD your God.

Verse 3

You must not behave like the people of Egypt, where you used to live, or like the people of Canaan, where I am bringing you. You must not follow their practices.

After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances.

Verse 4

You must obey my laws and carefully keep my decrees. Live by them. I am the LORD your God.

Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God.

Verse 5

You must keep my decrees and my laws, because the person who obeys them will live by them. I am the LORD.

Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD.

Verse 6

No one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the LORD.

None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD.

Verse 7

Do not dishonor your father by uncovering your mother’s nakedness. She is your mother; you must not have sexual relations with her.

The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.

Verse 8

Do not have sexual relations with your father’s wife; that would dishonor your father.

The nakedness of thy father's wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father's nakedness.

Verse 9

Do not have sexual relations with your sister, either your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether born in the same household or elsewhere.

The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or daughter of thy mother, whether she be born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover.

Verse 10

Do not have sexual relations with your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter, for that would dishonor yourself.

The nakedness of thy son's daughter, or of thy daughter's daughter, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover: for theirs is thine own nakedness.

Verse 11

Do not have sexual relations with the daughter of your father’s wife, born to your father; she is your sister.

The nakedness of thy father's wife's daughter, begotten of thy father, she is thy sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.

Verse 12

Do not have sexual relations with your father’s sister; she is your father’s close relative.

Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's sister: she is thy father's near kinswoman.

Verse 13

Do not have sexual relations with your mother’s sister, because she is your mother’s close relative.

Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother's sister: for she is thy mother's near kinswoman.

Verse 14

Do not dishonor your father’s brother by approaching his wife to have sexual relations; she is your aunt.

Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's brother, thou shalt not approach to his wife: she is thine aunt.

Verse 15

Do not have sexual relations with your daughter-in-law. She is your son’s wife; you must not uncover her nakedness.

Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy daughter in law: she is thy son's wife; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.

Verse 16

Do not have sexual relations with your brother’s wife; that would dishonor your brother.

Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother's wife: it is thy brother's nakedness.

Verse 17

Do not have sexual relations with both a woman and her daughter. Do not take her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter to uncover their nakedness; they are her close relatives. That is wickedness.

Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son's daughter, or her daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near kinswomen: it is wickedness.

Verse 18

Do not take your wife’s sister as a rival wife and have sexual relations with her while your wife is living.

Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time.

Verse 19

Do not approach a woman to have sexual relations with her during the uncleanness of her monthly period.

Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness.

Verse 20

Do not have sexual relations with your neighbor’s wife and defile yourself with her.

Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour's wife, to defile thyself with her.

Verse 21

Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molech, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the LORD.

And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.

Verse 22

Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable.

Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

Verse 23

Do not have sexual relations with an animal and defile yourself with it. A woman must not present herself to an animal to have sexual relations with it; that is a perversion.

Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.

Verse 24

Do not defile yourselves by any of these practices, for the nations I am driving out before you have defiled themselves by all these things.

Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you:

Verse 25

Even the land was defiled; so I punished it for its sin, and the land vomited out its inhabitants.

And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.

Verse 26

But you are to keep my statutes and my judgments. Do not commit any of these abominations, whether you are a native-born or a foreigner residing among you.

Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:

Verse 27

For all these abominations were committed by the people who lived in the land before you, and the land was defiled.

For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;)

Verse 28

Make sure the land does not vomit you out when you defile it, as it vomited out the nation that was there before you.

That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you.

Verse 29

For anyone who commits any of these detestable practices will be cut off from among their people.

For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people.

Verse 30

So keep my charge not to practice any of the abominable customs that were done before you, so you do not defile yourselves by them. I am the LORD your God.

Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God.
