1 For the director of music, with stringed instruments. A psalm of David.

Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.

2 Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness. You have given me relief when I was in trouble. Be gracious to me and hear my prayer.

O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.

3 How long, O people, will my honor be turned into shame? How long will you love vanity and seek lies? Selah.

But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.

4 Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for Himself; the LORD hears when I call to Him.

Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.

5 Tremble, and do not sin; ponder this in your hearts on your beds and be silent. Selah.

Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD.

6 Offer right sacrifices and trust in the LORD.

There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.

7 Many say, 'Who will show us anything good?' Let the light of Your face shine upon us, O LORD.

Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.

8 You have put more joy in my heart than when their grain and new wine abound.

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.

9 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
