1 David samlet alle lederne i Israel, lederne for stammene, og kapteinene for avdelingene som tjenestegjorde for kongen, og kapteinene for tusener og hundrer, og de som styrte over all kongens eiendom og hans sønners, sammen med offiserene og de mektige menn, ja, alle de tapre krigerne, til Jerusalem.

David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the companies who served the king by division, and the captains of thousands, and the captains of hundreds, and the rulers over all the substance and possessions of the king and of his sons, with the officers, and the mighty men, even all the mighty men of valor, to Jerusalem.

2 Så reiste kong David seg opp og sa: Hør meg, mine brødre og mitt folk: For meg var det i mitt hjerte å bygge et hvilested for Herrens paktsark, og som fotskammel for vår Gud; og jeg hadde gjort klart til byggingen.

Then David the king stood up on his feet, and said, Hear me, my brothers, and my people: as for me, it was in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, and for the footstool of our God; and I had made ready for the building.

3 Men Gud sa til meg: Du skal ikke bygge et hus for mitt navn, fordi du er en krigsmann og har utøst blod.

But God said to me, You shall not build a house for my name, because you are a man of war, and have shed blood.

4 Likevel valgte Herren, Israels Gud, meg ut av hele min fars hus til å være konge over Israel for alltid; for han har valgt Juda til høvding; og i Judas hus, min fars hus, og blant min fars sønner, fant han behag i meg til å gjøre meg til konge over hele Israel.

However Yahweh, the God of Israel, chose me out of all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever: for he has chosen Judah to be prince; and in the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he took pleasure in me to make me king over all Israel;

5 Av alle mine sønner (for Herren har gitt meg mange sønner), har han valgt min sønn Salomo til å sitte på Herrens kongedømme over Israel.

Of all my sons (for Yahweh has given me many sons), he has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of Yahweh over Israel.

6 Han sa til meg: Din sønn Salomo skal bygge mitt hus og mine forgårder; for jeg har valgt ham til å være min sønn, og jeg vil være hans far.

He said to me, Solomon your son, he shall build my house and my courts; for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.

7 Jeg vil stadfeste hans kongedømme for alltid, hvis han trofast holder mine bud og mine lover, slik han gjør denne dag.

I will establish his kingdom forever, if he be constant to do my commandments and my ordinances, as at this day.

8 Derfor, i hele Israels nærvær, Herrens forsamling, og innenfor vår Guds hørsel, hold og følg alle Herrens, din Guds, bud, så du kan eie dette gode landet, og overlate det som en arv til dine barn etter deg for alltid.

Now therefore, in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of Yahweh, and in the audience of our God, observe and seek out all the commandments of Yahweh your God; that you may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children after you forever.

9 Du, min sønn Salomo, kjenn din fars Gud, og tjen ham med et hederlig hjerte og med villig sinn; for Herren gransker alle hjerter, og forstår all tankenes tilbøyelighet: Hvis du søker ham, vil han la seg finne av deg; men hvis du forlater ham, vil han forkaste deg for evig.

You, Solomon my son, know the God of your father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind; for Yahweh searches all hearts, and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts: if you seek him, he will be found of you; but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.

10 Vær nå lydhør; for Herren har utvalgt deg til å bygge et hus til helligdommen: vær sterk og gjør det.

Take heed now; for Yahweh has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.

11 Da ga David sin sønn Salomo mønsteret for forhallen [til tempelet], og for bygningene, og for skattkamrene, og for de øvre rommene, og for de indre kamrene, og for stedet for nådestolen;

Then David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the porch [of the temple], and of the houses of it, and of the treasuries of it, and of the upper rooms of it, and of the inner chambers of it, and of the place of the mercy seat;

12 og mønsteret for alt han hadde ved Ånden, for forgårdene til Herrens hus, og for de omkringliggende rommene, for skattkamrene i Guds hus, og for de helligede gjenstanders skattkamrer;

and the pattern of all that he had by the Spirit, for the courts of the house of Yahweh, and for all the surrounding rooms, for the treasuries of the house of God, and for the treasuries of the dedicated things;

13 også for prestene og levittenes skift, og for all tjenesten i Herrens hus, og for alle tjenestens kar i Herrens hus;

also for the divisions of the priests and the Levites, and for all the work of the service of the house of Yahweh, and for all the vessels of service in the house of Yahweh;

14 av gull etter vekt for de [kar av] gull, for alle kar av enhver tjenestesort; [av sølv] for alle kar av sølv etter vekt, for alle kar av enhver tjenestesort;

of gold by weight for the [vessels of] gold, for all vessels of every kind of service; [of silver] for all the vessels of silver by weight, for all vessels of every kind of service;

15 etter vekt også for lysestakene av gull, og for lampene av den, av gull, etter vekt for hver lysestake og for lampene; og for lysestakene av sølv, [sølv] etter vekt for [hver] lysestake og for lampene, etter bruk for hver lysestake;

by weight also for the lampstands of gold, and for the lamps of it, of gold, by weight for every lampstand and for the lamps of it; and for the lampstands of silver, [silver] by weight for [every] lampstand and for the lamps of it, according to the use of every lampstand;

16 og gullet etter vekt for skuebrødbordene, for hvert bord; og sølv for sølvbordene;

and the gold by weight for the tables of show bread, for every table; and silver for the tables of silver;

17 og kjøttgafflene, og skålene, og koppene, av rent gull; og for de gylne bollene etter vekt for hver bolle; og for sølvbollene etter vekt for hver bolle;

and the flesh-hooks, and the basins, and the cups, of pure gold; and for the golden bowls by weight for every bowl; and for the silver bowls by weight for every bowl;

18 og for røkelsesalteret, raffinert gull etter vekt; og gull til mønsteret av vognen, [til og med] kjerubene, som bredde ut [sine vinger], og dekket Herrens paktsark.

and for the altar of incense refined gold by weight; and gold for the pattern of the chariot, [even] the cherubim, that spread out [their wings], and covered the ark of the covenant of Yahweh.

19 Alt dette, [sa David], har jeg for stått i skrift fra Herrens hånd, til og med alle verk av dette mønster.

All this, [said David], have I been made to understand in writing from the hand of Yahweh, even all the works of this pattern.

20 David sa til sin sønn Salomo: Vær sterk og modig, og gjør det: frykt ikke, og vær ikke redd; for Herren Gud, også min Gud, er med deg; han vil ikke svikte deg eller forlate deg, før alt arbeidet for tjenesten i Herrens hus er fullført.

David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: don't be afraid, nor be dismayed; for Yahweh God, even my God, is with you; he will not fail you, nor forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of Yahweh is finished.

21 Se, det er inndelingene av prestene og levittene, for all tjenesten i Guds hus: og det vil være med deg i all slags arbeid enhver villig mann som har dyktighet, for enhver slags tjeneste: også kapteinene og hele folket vil fullstendig være under ditt bud.

Behold, there are the divisions of the priests and the Levites, for all the service of the house of God: and there shall be with you in all manner of work every willing man who has skill, for any manner of service: also the captains and all the people will be entirely at your command.
