1 Kong David sa til hele forsamlingen: Min sønn Salomo, som Gud alene har utvalgt, er ung og uerfaren, og arbeidet er stort; for palasset er ikke for mennesker, men for Herren Gud.

David the king said to all the assembly, Solomon my son, whom alone God has chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great; for the palace is not for man, but for Yahweh God.

2 Nå har jeg forberedt med all min kraft for min Guds hus, gull til det som skal være av gull, sølv til det som skal være av sølv, kobber til det som skal være av kobber, jern til det som skal være av jern og tre til det som skal være av tre; karneol og steiner til innfatning, steiner til mosaikkarbeid, i alle slags farger, og alle slags kostbare steiner, og marmor i store mengder.

Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for the [things of] gold, and the silver for the [things of] silver, and the brass for the [things of] brass, the iron for the [things of] iron, and wood for the [things of] wood; onyx stones, and [stones] to be set, stones for inlaid work, and of various colors, and all manner of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance.

3 I tillegg, fordi jeg har satt min kjærlighet til Guds hus, og siden jeg har en egen skatt av gull og sølv, gir jeg det til min Guds hus, i tillegg til alt jeg har forberedt for den hellige bygningen.

In addition, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, seeing that I have a treasure of my own of gold and silver, I give it to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house,

4 Selv tre tusen talenter av gull, av gullet fra Ofir, og sju tusen talenter av raffinert sølv til å overtre husenes vegger med.

even three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, with which to overlay the walls of the houses;

5 Gull til det som skal være av gull, sølv til det som skal være av sølv, og til alt arbeid som skal lages av håndverkerne. Hvem vil så i dag frivillig innvie seg til Herren?

of gold for the [things of] gold, and of silver for the [things of] silver, and for all manner of work [to be made] by the hands of artificers. Who then offers willingly to consecrate himself this day to Yahweh?

6 Da kom lederne for fedrenes hus, lederne for Israels stammer, høvdingene over tusener og hundreder, og oppsynsmennene over kongens arbeid, og ga frivillig.

Then the princes of the fathers' [houses], and the princes of the tribes of Israel, and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers over the king's work, offered willingly;

7 De ga til tjenesten i Guds hus fem tusen talenter og ti tusen gullstykker, ti tusen talenter sølv, atten tusen talenter kobber og hundre tusen talenter jern.

and they gave for the service of the house of God of gold five thousand talents and ten thousand darics, and of silver ten thousand talents, and of brass eighteen thousand talents, and of iron a hundred thousand talents.

8 De som hadde edelstener, ga dem til Herrens husets skattkammer, under tilsyn av Jehiel fra Gershon.

They with whom [precious] stones were found gave them to the treasure of the house of Yahweh, under the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.

9 Da gledet folket seg, fordi de hadde gitt frivillig, for med et helt hjerte hadde de frivillig gitt til Herren. Også kong David gledet seg med stor glede.

Then the people rejoiced, because they offered willingly, because with a perfect heart they offered willingly to Yahweh: and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.

10 Så velsignet David Herren foran hele forsamlingen; og David sa: Velsignet er du, Herre, Israels Gud, vår far, fra evighet til evighet.

Therefore David blessed Yahweh before all the assembly; and David said, You are blessed, Yahweh, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever.

11 Din, Herre, er storheten, makten, herligheten, seieren og majesteten. For alt som er i himmelen og på jorden er ditt. Ditt er riket, Herre, og du er opphøyet som hode over alle.

Yours, Yahweh, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, Yahweh, and you are exalted as head above all.

12 Både rikdom og ære kommer fra deg, og du rår over alt; i din hånd er makt og styrke; i din hånd alene er det å gjøre stor, og å gi styrke til alle.

Both riches and honor come of you, and you rule over all; and in your hand is power and might; and it is in your hand to make great, and to give strength to all.

13 Nå takker vi deg derfor, vår Gud, og priser ditt herlige navn.

Now therefore, our God, we thank you, and praise your glorious name.

14 Men hvem er jeg, og hva er mitt folk, at vi skulle kunne gi så frivillig som dette? Alt kommer jo fra deg, og det vi har gitt deg, er ditt eget.

But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come of you, and of your own have we given you.

15 For vi er fremmede for deg, og utlendinger, som alle våre fedre var; våre dager på jorden er som en skygge, uten noen varig opphold.

For we are strangers before you, and foreigners, as all our fathers were: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is no abiding.

16 Herre vår Gud, hele denne rikdommen som vi har forberedt for å bygge et hus for ditt hellige navn, kommer fra din hånd og alt er ditt eget.

Yahweh our God, all this store that we have prepared to build you a house for your holy name comes of your hand, and is all your own.

17 Jeg vet også, min Gud, at du prøver hjertet og har glede i oppriktigheten. Som for meg, i oppriktigheten av mitt hjerte har jeg frivillig gitt alle disse: og nå har jeg sett med glede ditt folk, som her er til stede, gi frivillig til deg.

I know also, my God, that you try the heart, and have pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy your people, that are present here, offer willingly to you.

18 Herre, vår fedre Abraham, Isaks og Israels Gud, hold dette for alltid i tankene på ditt folks hjertes tanker, og bered deres hjerte for deg;

Yahweh, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of your people, and prepare their heart to you;

19 og gi Salomo, min sønn, et fullkomment hjerte til å holde dine bud, dine vitnesbyrd og dine lover, og til å gjøre alle disse ting, og til å bygge palasset, som jeg har forberedt.

and give to Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for which I have made provision.

20 David sa til hele forsamlingen: Nå lov Herren deres Gud. Hele forsamlingen lovet Herren, sine fedres Gud, og bøyde hodene og tilba Herren og kongen.

David said to all the assembly, Now bless Yahweh your God. All the assembly blessed Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and worshiped Yahweh, and the king.

21 De ofret offer til Herren, og ofret brennoffer til Herren dagen etter, tusen okser, tusen værer og tusen lam, med sine drikkofre og i overflod for hele Israel,

They sacrificed sacrifices to Yahweh, and offered burnt offerings to Yahweh, on the next day after that day, even one thousand bulls, one thousand rams, and one thousand lambs, with their drink-offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel,

22 og spise og drakk for Herrens åsyn den dagen med stor glede. De gjorde Salomo, Davids sønn, til konge for andre gang, salvet ham for Herren til leder, og Sadok til prest.

and ate and drink before Yahweh on that day with great gladness. They made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him to Yahweh to be prince, and Zadok to be priest.

23 Da satt Salomo på Herrens trone som konge i stedet for David, sin far, og hadde fremgang; og hele Israel adlød ham.

Then Solomon sat on the throne of Yahweh as king instead of David his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.

24 Alle lederne, de mektige menn, og også alle kong Davids sønner underkastet seg Salomo, kongen.

All the princes, the mighty men, and also all of the sons of king David submitted themselves to Solomon the king.

25 Herren opphøyet Salomo svært mye i hele Israels øyne, og ga ham en slik kongelig ære som ingen konge før ham hadde hatt i Israel.

Yahweh magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed on him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.

26 Nå regjerte Davids sønn over hele Israel.

Now David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.

27 Tiden han regjerte over Israel var førti år; han regjerte sju år i Hebron, og tretti-tre år regjerte han i Jerusalem.

The time that he reigned over Israel was forty years; he reigned seven years in Hebron, and thirty-three [years] reigned he in Jerusalem.

28 Han døde i høy alderdom, full av dager, rikdom og ære, og Salomo, hans sønn, regjerte i hans sted.

He died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor: and Solomon his son reigned in his place.

29 Nå er hele Davids kongens gjerninger, først og sist, de er skrevet ned i seeren Samuels bok, profeten Natans bok og seeren Gads bok,

Now the acts of David the king, first and last, behold, they are written in the history of Samuel the seer, and in the history of Nathan the prophet, and in the history of Gad the seer,

30 med hele hans regjering og hans makt, og tiden som gikk forbi ham og Israel, og over alle rikene av landene.

with all his reign and his might, and the times that went over him, and over Israel, and over all the kingdoms of the countries.
