Dere er barn av Herren deres Gud: dere skal ikke skjære dere selv eller rake dere skallet mellom øynene for de døde.

You are the children of Yahweh your God: you shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.

For du er et hellig folk for Herren din Gud, og Herren har utvalgt deg til å være et folk til sin eiendom, over alle folkene som er på jordens overflate.

For you are a holy people to Yahweh your God, and Yahweh has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth.

Du skal ikke spise noe avskyelig.

You shall not eat any abominable thing.

Dette er dyrene dere kan spise: oksen, sauen og geiten,

These are the animals which you may eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat,

hjorten, gasellen, rådyret, villgeiten, ibexen, antilopen og gemsen.

the hart, and the gazelle, and the roebuck, and the wild goat, and the ibex, and the antelope, and the chamois.

Alle dyr som har kløvde hover og tygger drøv, blant dyrene, kan dere spise.

Every animal that parts the hoof, and has the hoof cloven in two, [and] chews the cud, among the animals, that may you eat.

Men av dem som tygger drøv eller har kløvd hov, skal disse ikke spises: kamelen, haren og kaninen; fordi de tygger drøv, men ikke deler hovene, er de urene for dere.

Nevertheless these you shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of those who have the hoof cloven: the camel, and the hare, and the rabbit; because they chew the cud but don't part the hoof, they are unclean to you.

Grisen, fordi den har kløftede hover, men ikke tygger drøv, er uren for dere: kjøttet deres skal dere ikke spise, og kadavrene skal dere ikke røre.

The pig, because it has a split hoof but doesn't chew the cud, is unclean to you: of their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch.

Dette kan dere spise av alt som er i vannet: alt som har finner og skjell, kan dere spise;

These you may eat of all that are in the waters: whatever has fins and scales may you eat;

men alt som ikke har finner og skjell, skal dere ikke spise; det er urent for dere.

and whatever doesn't have fins and scales you shall not eat; it is unclean to you.

Av alle rene fugler kan dere spise.

Of all clean birds you may eat.

Men disse skal dere ikke spise: ørnen, glente og fiskeørnen,

But these are they of which you shall not eat: the eagle, and the gier-eagle, and the ospray,

den røde glente, falken og alle slag av glenter,

and the red kite, and the falcon, and the kite after its kind,

og alle slags ravner,

and every raven after its kind,

strutsen, nattravnen, måken og høken etter dens slag,

and the ostrich, and the night-hawk, and the sea-mew, and the hawk after its kind,

lilleuglen, storuglen og hornuglen,

the little owl, and the great owl, and the horned owl,

pelikanen, gribben og skarven,

and the pelican, and the vulture, and the cormorant,

storken, hegren etter dens slag, hærfuglen og flaggermusen.

and the stork, and the heron after its kind, and the hoopoe, and the bat.

Alle vingede kryp er urene for dere: de skal ikke spises.

All winged creeping things are unclean to you: they shall not be eaten.

Av alle rene fugler kan dere spise.

Of all clean birds you may eat.

Dere skal ikke spise noe som dør av seg selv: dere kan gi det til den fremmede som bor blant dere innenfor deres porter, så han kan spise det; eller dere kan selge det til en fremmed: for dere er et hellig folk for Herren deres Gud. Dere skal ikke koke et kje i morens melk.

You shall not eat of anything that dies of itself: you may give it to the foreigner living among you who is within your gates, that he may eat it; or you may sell it to a foreigner: for you are a holy people to Yahweh your God. You shall not boil a kid in its mother's milk.

Dere skal tiende all avlingen av deres frø, det som vokser på åkeren år for år.

You shall surely tithe all the increase of your seed, that which comes forth from the field year by year.

For Herren deres Gud, på det stedet han velger for å la sitt navn bo der, skal dere spise tienden av deres korn, deres nye vin, deres olje, og førstefødte av deres buskap og ditt småfe; så dere kan lære å frykte Herren deres Gud alltid.

You shall eat before Yahweh your God, in the place which he shall choose, to cause his name to dwell there, the tithe of your grain, of your new wine, and of your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock; that you may learn to fear Yahweh your God always.

Er veien for lang for deg, slik at du ikke kan bære det, fordi stedet er for langt fra deg, som Herren din Gud skal velge for å la sitt navn være der, når Herren din Gud velsigner deg;

If the way be too long for you, so that you are not able to carry it, because the place is too far from you, which Yahweh your God shall choose, to set his name there, when Yahweh your God shall bless you;

then shall you turn it into money, and bind up the money in your hand, and shall go to the place which Yahweh your God shall choose:

og du skal bruke pengene til hva din sjel ønsker, til okser, eller til sauer, eller til vin, eller til sterk drikke, eller til hva din sjel begjærer; og du skal spise der for Herrens din Guds ansikt, og glede deg, du og ditt hus.

and you shall bestow the money for whatever your soul desires, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatever your soul asks of you; and you shall eat there before Yahweh your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household.

Den levitt som er innenfor dine porter, skal du ikke forsømme; for han har ingen del eller arv med deg.

The Levite who is within your gates, you shall not forsake him; for he has no portion nor inheritance with you.

Ved slutten av hvert tredje år skal du ta frem hele tienden av din avling i det året og samle den innenfor dine porter.

At the end of every three years you shall bring forth all the tithe of your increase in the same year, and shall lay it up within your gates:

Og levitten, fordi han ikke har del eller arv med deg, og den fremmede, den farløse og enken som er innenfor dine porter, skal komme og spise og bli mette; så Herren din Gud kan velsigne deg i alt ditt hånd verk.

and the Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you, and the foreigner living among you, and the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that Yahweh your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.
