1 Herren sa til Moses: "Hugg ut to steintavler som de første, så vil jeg skrive på dem de ordene som stod på de første tavlene, som du knuste.

Yahweh said to Moses, "Chisel two stone tablets like the first: and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke.

2 Vær klar til i morgen tidlig, og stig opp til Sinai-fjellet, og still deg foran meg på toppen av fjellet.

Be ready by the morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself there to me on the top of the mountain.

3 Ingen skal komme opp med deg; ingen må være å se på hele fjellet, og verken sauer eller storfe skal beite i nærheten av fjellet."

No one shall come up with you; neither let anyone be seen throughout all the mountain; neither let the flocks nor herds feed before that mountain."

4 Han hugg ut to steintavler som de første, og Moses sto tidlig opp om morgenen og gikk opp til Sinai-fjellet slik Herren hadde befalt ham, og han tok med seg de to steintavlene.

He chiseled two tablets of stone like the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up to Mount Sinai, as Yahweh had commanded him, and took in his hand two stone tablets.

5 Herren steg ned i skyen og sto der med ham og forkynte Herrens navn.

Yahweh descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of Yahweh.

6 Herren gikk forbi ham og ropte: "Herren, Herren, en barmhjertig og nådig Gud, sen til vrede og rik på miskunn og sannhet,

Yahweh passed by before him, and proclaimed, "Yahweh! Yahweh, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness and truth,

7 som bevarer sin miskunn i tusener av mennesker, tilgir misgjerning og synd, men ikke unnskylder den skyldige, som lar fedrenes misgjerninger ramme barna og barnebarna til tredje og fjerde ledd."

keeping loving kindness for thousands, forgiving iniquity and disobedience and sin; and that will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the children's children, on the third and on the fourth generation."

8 Moses skyndte seg å bøye seg mot jorden og tilbe.

Moses hurried and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshiped.

9 Han sa: "Hvis jeg nå har funnet nåde for dine øyne, Herre, så la Herren gå midt iblant oss, selv om det er et stivnakket folk; tilgi våre misgjerninger og vår synd, og gjør oss til din eiendom."

He said, "If now I have found favor in your sight, Lord, please let the Lord go in the midst of us; although this is a stiff-necked people; pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance."

10 Herren sa: "Se, jeg inngår en pakt. Foran hele ditt folk vil jeg gjøre under, som ikke har vært gjort i hele verden eller i noen nasjon; og hele ditt folk skal se Herrens gjerninger, for det er noe fryktinngytende jeg gjør med deg.

He said, "Behold, I make a covenant: before all your people I will do marvels, such as have not been worked in all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people among which you are shall see the work of Yahweh; for it is an awesome thing that I do with you.

11 Hold det jeg befaler deg i dag. Se, jeg vil drive ut foran deg amorittene, kanaaneerne, hetittene, perisittene, hivittene og jebusittene.

Observe that which I command you this day. Behold, I drive out before you the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

12 Vær forsiktig, så du ikke inngår en pakt med innbyggerne i landet du skal til, for det kan bli en snare for deg.

Be careful, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be for a snare in the midst of you:

13 Men dere skal rive ned deres altere, knuse deres buepilarer og hugge ned deres Ashera-trær.

but you shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and you shall cut down their Asherim;

14 For du skal ikke tilbe noen annen Gud, for Herren, hvis navn er Nidkjær, er en nidkjær Gud.

for you shall worship no other god: for Yahweh, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

15 Gjør ikke en pakt med innbyggerne i landet, for da vil de drive hor etter deres guder og ofre til deres guder, og de vil invitere deg, og du vil spise av deres offer.

Don't make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, lest they play the prostitute after their gods, and sacrifice to their gods, and one call you and you eat of his sacrifice;

16 Og du vil ta av deres døtre til dine sønner, og deres døtre vil drive hor etter deres guder, og få dine sønner til å drive hor etter deres guder.

and you take of their daughters to your sons, and their daughters play the prostitute after their gods, and make your sons play the prostitute after their gods.

17 Dere skal ikke lage noen støpte avguder til dere selv.

You shall make no cast idols for yourselves.

18 Dere skal holde de usyrede brøds høytid. I syv dager skal du spise usyret brød, slik som jeg har befalt deg, på den fastsatte tid i måneden Abib; for i måneden Abib dro du ut fra Egypt.

"You shall keep the feast of unleavened bread. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the time appointed in the month Abib; for in the month Abib you came out from Egypt.

19 Alt som åpner mors liv, tilhører meg; alt av ditt kveg som er hankjønn, førstefødt av ku og sau.

All that opens the womb is mine; and all your cattle that is male, the firstborn of cow and sheep.

20 Den førstefødte av et esel skal du løse med et lam, og hvis du ikke vil løse det, skal du bryte nakken på det. Alle førstefødte av dine sønner skal du løse. Ingen skal vise seg tomhendt for meg.

The firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb: and if you will not redeem it, then you shall break its neck. All the firstborn of your sons you shall redeem. No one shall appear before me empty.

21 Seks dager skal du arbeide, men på den sjuende dagen skal du hvile, også i pløyingstiden og høsttiden skal du hvile.

Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest: in plowing time and in harvest you shall rest.

22 Du skal feire ukefesten med førstegrøden av hvetehøsten, og innhøstningsfesten ved årets slutt.

You shall observe the feast of weeks with the first fruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of harvest at the year's end.

23 Tre ganger i året skal alle mennene dine vise seg for Herren, Israels Gud.

Three times in the year all your males shall appear before the Lord Yahweh, the God of Israel.

24 For jeg skal drive ut nasjoner foran deg og utvide dine grenser; og ingen skal begjære ditt land når du går opp for å møte Herren din Gud tre ganger i året.

For I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your borders; neither shall any man desire your land when you go up to appear before Yahweh, your God, three times in the year.

25 "Du skal ikke ofre blodet av mitt offer sammen med syret brød, og ofret til påskefesten skal ikke bli liggende til morgenen.

"You shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread; neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the Passover be left to the morning.

26 Den første frukt av jorden din skal du bringe til Herrens, din Guds, hus. Du skal ikke koke en kje i sin mors melk."

You shall bring the first of the first fruits of your ground to the house of Yahweh your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk."

27 Herren sa til Moses: "Skriv ned disse ordene, for i samsvar med disse ordene har jeg inngått en pakt med deg og Israel."

Yahweh said to Moses, "Write you these words: for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel."

28 Han var der med Herren i førti dager og førti netter; han spiste ikke brød og drakk ikke vann. Han skrev på tavlene paktens ord, de ti bud.

He was there with Yahweh forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread, nor drank water. He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

29 Da Moses kom ned fra Sinai-fjellet med de to vitnesbyrdstavlene i hånden, visste ikke Moses at ansiktet hans skinte etter å ha talt med Herren.

It happened, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mountain, that Moses didn't know that the skin of his face shone by reason of his speaking with him.

30 Da Aron og alle Israels barn så Moses, se, ansiktshuden hans skinte, og de var redde for å nærme seg ham.

When Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come near him.

31 Moses kalte på dem, og Aron og alle lederne i menigheten vendte tilbake til ham; og Moses talte til dem.

Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned to him; and Moses spoke to them.

32 Etterpå kom alle Israels barn nær, og han ga dem alle de bud Herren hadde talt med ham på Sinai-fjellet.

Afterward all the children of Israel came near, and he gave them all of the commandments that Yahweh had spoken with him on Mount Sinai.

33 Når Moses var ferdig med å tale til dem, la han et slør over ansiktet sitt.

When Moses was done speaking with them, he put a veil on his face.

34 Men når Moses gikk inn for Herren for å tale med ham, tok han sløret av til han kom ut; og når han kom ut, talte han til Israels barn det han var pålagt.

But when Moses went in before Yahweh to speak with him, he took the veil off, until he came out; and he came out, and spoke to the children of Israel that which he was commanded.

35 Israels barn så at ansiktet til Moses skinte; og Moses la sløret tilbake på ansiktet sitt til han igjen gikk inn for å tale med Herren.

The children of Israel saw Moses' face, that the skin of Moses' face shone: and Moses put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with him.
