It happened in the days of Amraphel, king of Shinar, Arioch, king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer, king of Elam, and Tidal, king of Goiim,

2 gjorde krig med Bera, kongen av Sodoma, og med Birsha, kongen av Gomorra, Sinab, kongen av Adma, og Semeber, kongen av Seboim, og kongen av Bela (som er Soar).

that they made war with Bera, king of Sodom, and with Birsha, king of Gomorrah, Shinab, king of Admah, and Shemeber, king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar).

3 Alle disse sluttet seg sammen i Siddim-dalen (som er Saltsjøen).

All these joined together in the valley of Siddim (the same is the Salt Sea).

4 I tolv år hadde de tjent Kedorlaomer, men i det trettende året gjorde de opprør.

Twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year, they rebelled.

In the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer came, and the kings who were with him, and struck the Rephaim in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh-kiriathaim,

6 og horittene i deres fjell Se'ir, til El-Paran, som ligger ved ørkenen.

and the Horites in their Mount Seir, to Elparan, which is by the wilderness.

7 De vendte tilbake, og kom til En-Misjpat (som er Kadesj), og slo hele landet til amalekittene, og også amorittene som bodde i Haseson-Tamar.

They returned, and came to En-mishpat (the same is Kadesh), and struck all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, that lived in Hazazon Tamar.

8 Da dro kongen av Sodoma, kongen av Gomorra, kongen av Adma, kongen av Seboim, og kongen av Bela (som er Soar) ut; og de satte opp slagorden mot dem i Siddim-dalen;

There went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar); and they set the battle in array against them in the valley of Siddim;

9 mot Kedorlaomer, kongen av Elam, og Tidal, kongen av folkene, og Amrafel, kongen av Sinear, og Arjok, kongen av Ellasar; fire konger mot fem.

against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings against the five.

10 Nå var Siddim-dalen full av asfaltgruver; og kongene av Sodom og Gomorra rømte, og de falt der, og de som ble igjen, flyktet til fjellet.

Now the valley of Siddim was full of tar pits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and they fell there, and those who remained fled to the mountain.

11 De tok alle varene fra Sodom og Gomorra, og all deres mat, og dro sin vei.

They took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their food, and went their way.

12 De tok Lot, Abrahams brorsønn, som bodde i Sodom, og hans eiendeler, og dro av sted.

They took Lot, Abram's brother's son, who lived in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.

13 En som hadde sluppet unna kom og meldte fra til Abram, hebreeren. Han bodde ved eikene i Mamre, amoritten, bror til Esjkol og bror til Aner; og disse var Abrahams forbundsfeller.

One who had escaped came and told Abram, the Hebrew. Now he lived by the oaks of Mamre, the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner; and these were allies of Abram.

14 Da Abram hørte at hans slektning var tatt til fange, mobiliserte han sine trente menn, født i hans hus, tre hundre og atten, og forfulgte dem helt til Dan.

When Abram heard that his relative was taken captive, he led forth his trained men, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued as far as Dan.

15 Om natten delte han seg mot dem, han og hans tjenere, og slo dem, og forfulgte dem til Hoba, som ligger nord for Damaskus.

He divided himself against them by night, he and his servants, and struck them, and pursued them to Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.

16 Han brakte tilbake alle varene, og også sin slektning Lot, og hans eiendeler, og kvinnene, og folket.

He brought back all the goods, and also brought back his relative, Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.

17 Kongen av Sodoma gikk ut for å møte ham etter han hadde slått Kedorlaomer og kongene med ham, i Sjave-dalen (som er Kongedalen).

The king of Sodom went out to meet him, after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, at the valley of Shaveh (the same is the King's Valley).

18 Melkisedek, kongen av Salem, brakte fram brød og vin; han var prest for Gud, Den Høyeste.

Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was priest of God Most High.

19 Han velsignet ham og sa: "Velsignet være Abram av Gud, Den Høyeste, som eier himmel og jord.

He blessed him, and said, "Blessed be Abram of God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth:

20 Og velsignet være Gud, Den Høyeste, som har gitt dine fiender i din hånd." Abram ga ham tiende av alt.

and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand." Abram gave him a tenth of all.

21 Kongen av Sodoma sa til Abram: "Gi meg menneskene, og behold varene for deg selv."

The king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the people, and take the goods to yourself."

22 Men Abram sa til kongen av Sodoma: "Jeg løftet min hånd til Herren, Gud Den Høyeste, som eier himmel og jord,

Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have lifted up my hand to Yahweh, God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth,

23 at jeg ikke vil ta så mye som en tråd eller en skorem, ja, ingenting som er ditt, for at du ikke skal si: 'Jeg har gjort Abram rik.'

that I will not take a thread nor a shoe-latchet nor anything that is yours, lest you should say, 'I have made Abram rich.'

24 Utenom det bare som de unge mennene har spist, og de andres del som var med meg, Aner, Esjkol, og Mamre: la dem ta sin del."

Except only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre: let them take their portion."
