It happened after these things, that someone said to Joseph, "Behold, your father is sick." He took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

2 Noen fortalte Jakob og sa: "Se, din sønn Josef kommer til deg," og Israel styrket seg og satte seg opp i sengen.

Someone told Jacob, and said, "Behold, your son Joseph comes to you," and Israel strengthened himself, and sat on the bed.

3 Jakob sa til Josef: "Gud Den Allmektige viste seg for meg i Luz, i Kanaans land, og velsignet meg,

Jacob said to Joseph, "God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,

6 De barna du får etter dem, skal være dine. De skal kalles etter sine brødres navn i deres arv.

Your issue, who you become the father of after them, will be yours. They will be called after the name of their brothers in their inheritance.

8 Israel så Josefs sønner og sa: "Hvem er disse?"

Now the eyes of Israel were dim for age, so that he couldn't see. He brought them near to him; and he kissed them, and embraced them.

11 Israel sa til Josef: "Jeg trodde ikke jeg skulle få se ditt ansikt, og se, Gud har latt meg se dine etterkommere også."

Israel said to Joseph, "I didn't think I would see your face, and, behold, God has let me see your seed also."

12 Josef førte dem bort fra mellom knærne sine, og bøyde seg med ansiktet mot jorden.

Joseph brought them out from between his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth.

13 Josef tok dem begge, Efraim i sin høyre hånd mot Israels venstre hånd, og Manasse i sin venstre hånd mot Israels høyre hånd, og førte dem nær ham.

Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel's left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel's right hand, and brought them near to him.

14 Israel rakte ut sin høyre hånd og la den på Efraims hode, som var den yngre, og sin venstre hånd på Manasses hode, og styrte sine hender bevisst, for Manasse var den førstefødte.

Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it on Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand on Manasseh's head, guiding his hands knowingly, for Manasseh was the firstborn.

17 Da Josef så at hans far la sin høyre hånd på Efraims hode, mislikte han det. Han tok sin fars hånd for å flytte den fra Efraims hode til Manasses hode.

When Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand on the head of Ephraim, it displeased him. He held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head to Manasseh's head.

18 Josef sa til sin far: "Ikke slik, far; for dette er den førstefødte; legg din høyre hånd på hans hode."

Joseph said to his father, "Not so, my father; for this is the firstborn; put your right hand on his head."

19 Hans far nektet og sa: "Jeg vet, min sønn, jeg vet. Han skal også bli til et folk, og han skal også bli stor. Men hans yngre bror skal bli større enn ham, og hans slekt skal bli til en mengde av nasjoner."

His father refused, and said, "I know, my son, I know. He also will become a people, and he also will be great. However, his younger brother will be greater than he, and his seed will become a multitude of nations."

20 Han velsignet dem den dagen, og sa: "Med deg skal Israel velsigne og si: 'Gud gjøre deg som Efraim og som Manasse.'" Han satte Efraim foran Manasse.

He blessed them that day, saying, "In you will Israel bless, saying, 'God make you as Ephraim and as Manasseh'" He set Ephraim before Manasseh.

21 Israel sa til Josef: "Se, jeg dør, men Gud vil være med deg og føre deg tilbake til dine fedres land.

Israel said to Joseph, "Behold, I am dying, but God will be with you, and bring you again to the land of your fathers.

22 Og jeg gir deg en del mer enn dine brødre, som jeg tok fra amorittenes hånd med mitt sverd og med min bue."

Moreover I have given to you one portion above your brothers, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow."
