1 Et orakel. Yahwehs ord om Israel. Yahweh, som strekker ut himlene, legger jordens grunnvoll og former menneskets ånd i ham, sier:

An oracle. The word of Yahweh concerning Israel. Yahweh, who stretches out the heavens, and lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him says:

2 "Se, jeg vil gjøre Jerusalem til en tumlekopp for alle de omkringliggende folkene, og også over Juda skal det komme når Jerusalem blir beleiret.

"Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of reeling to all the surrounding peoples, and on Judah also will it be in the siege against Jerusalem.

3 På den dagen vil jeg gjøre Jerusalem til en tung byrde for alle folkene. Alle som besværer seg med det, skal bli hardt såret, og alle jordens nasjoner vil samle seg mot det.

It will happen in that day, that I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all the peoples. All who burden themselves with it will be severely wounded, and all the nations of the earth will be gathered together against it.

4 På den dagen," sier Yahweh, "vil jeg slå hver hest med skrekk og dens rytter med galskap; og jeg vil åpne mine øyne mot Judas hus, og slå alle folkenes hester med blindhet.

In that day," says Yahweh, "I will strike every horse with terror, and his rider with madness; and I will open my eyes on the house of Judah, and will strike every horse of the peoples with blindness.

5 Judas høvdinger vil si i sine hjerter: 'Innbyggerne i Jerusalem er min styrke hos Yahweh, deres Gud.'

The chieftains of Judah will say in their heart, 'The inhabitants of Jerusalem are my strength in Yahweh of Hosts their God.'

6 På den dagen vil jeg gjøre Judas høvdinger som et ildfat blant veden, og som en flammende fakkel blant kornbåndene; og de skal fortære alle de omkringliggende folkene, til høyre og til venstre; og Jerusalem skal igjen bo på sitt sted, i Jerusalem.

In that day I will make the chieftains of Judah like a pan of fire among wood, and like a flaming torch among sheaves; and they will devour all the surrounding peoples, on the right hand and on the left; and Jerusalem will yet again dwell in their own place, even in Jerusalem.

7 Yahweh vil også frelse Judas telter først, for at ikke herligheten til Davids hus og herligheten til Jerusalems innbyggere skal bli opphøyd over Juda.

Yahweh also will save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem not be magnified above Judah.

8 På den dagen vil Yahweh forsvare Jerusalems innbyggere. Han som er svak blant dem den dagen, skal være som David, og Davids hus som Gud, som Yahwehs engel foran dem.

In that day Yahweh will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem. He who is feeble among them at that day will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the angel of Yahweh before them.

9 Det skal skje på den dagen at jeg vil søke å ødelegge alle folkene som kommer mot Jerusalem.

It will happen in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

10 Jeg vil utøse nådens og bønnens ånd over Davids hus og Jerusalems innbyggere; og de vil se til meg, som de har gjennomboret, og de skal sørge over ham som man sørger over en enbårent sønn, og klage bittert over ham, som man klager over den førstefødte.

I will pour on the house of David, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they will look to me{After "me," the Hebrew has the two letters "Aleph Tav" (the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet), not as a word, but as a grammatical marker.} whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for his only son, and will grieve bitterly for him, as one grieves for his firstborn.

11 På den dagen skal det være en stor sørg i Jerusalem, som sørgen ved Hadadrimmon i Megiddons dal.

In that day there will be a great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.

12 Landet skal sørge, hver familie for seg; Davids hus' familie for seg, og deres kvinner for seg; Natans hus' familie for seg, og deres kvinner for seg;

The land will mourn, every family apart; the family of the house of David apart, and their wives apart; the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart;

13 Levis hus' familie for seg, og deres kvinner for seg; Sjimeítenes hus' familie for seg, og deres kvinner for seg;

the family of the house of Levi apart, and their wives apart; the family of the Shimeites apart, and their wives apart;

14 alle de gjenværende familiene, hver familie for seg, og deres kvinner for seg.

all the families who remain, every family apart, and their wives apart.
