Psalms 42:4

Geneva Bible (1560)

When I remembred these things, I powred out my very heart, because I had gone with the multitude, and ledde them into the House of God with the voyce of singing, and prayse, as a multitude that keepeth a feast.

  • 1 Chr 15:15-28 : 15 And the sonnes of the Leuites bare the Arke of God vpon their shoulders with the barres, as Moses had commanded, according to the worde of the Lorde. 16 And Dauid spake to the chiefe of the Leuites, that they should appoint certaine of their brethren to sing with instruments of musike, with violes and harpes, and cymbales, that they might make a sounde, and lift vp their voyce with ioye. 17 So the Leuites appointed Heman the sonne of Ioel, and of his brethren Asaph the sonne of Berechiah, and of the sonnes of Merari their brethren, Ethan the sonne of Kushaiah, 18 And with them their brethren in the seconde degree, Zechariah, Ben, and Iaaziel, and Shemiramoth, and Iehiel, and Vnni, Eliab, and Benaiah, and Maaseiah, and Mattithiah, and Elipheleh, and Mikneah, and Obed Edom, and Ieiel the porters. 19 So Heman, Asaph and Ethan were fingers to make a sounde with cymbales of brasse, 20 And Zechariah, and Aziel, and Shemiramoth, and Iehiel, and Vnni, and Eliab, and Maaseiah, and Benaiah with violes on Alamoth, 21 And Mattithiah, and Elipheleh, and Mikneah, and Obed Edom, and Ieiel, and Azaziah, with harpes vpon Sheminith Ienazzeah. 22 But Chenaniah the chiefe of the Leuites had the charge, bearing ye burden in the charge, for he was able to instruct. 23 And Berechiah and Elkanah were porters for the Arke. 24 And Shecaniah and Iehoshaphat and Nethaneel and Amasai, and Zechariah, and Benaiah, and Eliezer the Priestes did blowe with trumpets before the Arke of God, and Obed Edom and Ieiiah were porters for the Arke. 25 So Dauid and the Elders of Israel and the captaines of thousandes went to bring vp the Arke of the couenant of the Lord from the house of Obed Edom with ioye. 26 And because that God helped the Leuites that bare the Arke of the couenant of the Lorde, they offered seuen bullockes and seuen rammes. 27 And Dauid had on him a linen garment, as all the Leuites that bare the Arke, and the singers and Chenaniah that had the chiefe charge of the singers: and vpon Dauid was a linnen Ephod. 28 Thus all Israel brought vp the Arke of the Lordes couenant with shouting and sounde of cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbales, making a sound with violes and with harpes.
  • 1 Chr 16:1-9 : 1 So they brought in the Arke of God, and set it in the middes of the Tabernacle that Dauid had pitched for it, and they offred burnt offrings and peace offrings before God. 2 And when Dauid had made an ende of offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, hee blessed the people in the Name of the Lorde. 3 And he dealt to euery one of Israel both man and woman, to euery one a cake of breade, and a piece of flesh, and a bottel of wine. 4 And he appointed certaine of the Leuites to minister before the Arke of the Lorde, and to rehearse and to thanke and prayse the Lord God of Israel: 5 Asaph the chiefe, and next to him Zechariah, Ieiel, and Shemiramoth, and Iehiel, & Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obed Edom, euen Ieiel with instruments, violes and harpes, and Asaph to make a sound with cymbales, 6 And Benaiah and Iahaziel Priestes, with trumpets continually before the Arke of the couenant of God. 7 Then at that time Dauid did appoint at the beginning to giue thankes to the Lorde by the hand of Asaph and his brethren. 8 Praise the Lorde and call vpon his Name: declare his workes among the people. 9 Sing vnto him, sing praise vnto him, and talke of all his wonderfull workes. 10 Reioyce in his holy Name: let the hearts of them that seeke the Lord reioyce. 11 Seeke the Lord and his strength: seeke his face continually. 12 Remember his marueilous workes that he hath done, his wonders, and the iudgementes of his mouth, 13 O seede of Israel his seruant, O the children of Iaakob his chosen. 14 He is the Lorde our God: his iudgements are throughout all the earth. 15 Remember his couenant for euer, and the worde, which hee commaunded to a thousand generations: 16 Which he made with Abraham, and his othe to Izhak: 17 And hath confirmed it to Iaakob for a Law, & to Israel for an euerlasting couenant, 18 Saying, To thee will I giue the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance. 19 When ye were fewe in number, yea, a very fewe, and strangers therein, 20 And walked about from nation to nation, and from one kingdome to another people, 21 He suffered no man to do them wrong, but rebuked Kings for their sakes, saying, 22 Touch not mine anoynted, and doe my Prophets no harme. 23 Sing vnto the Lord all the earth: declare his saluation from day to day. 24 Declare his glory among the nations, and his wonderful workes among all people. 25 For the Lorde is great & much to be praised, and hee is to bee feared aboue all gods. 26 For all the gods of the people are idoles, but the Lord made the heauens. 27 Prayse and glory are before him: power & beautie are in his place. 28 Giue vnto the Lord, ye families of the people: giue vnto the Lord glory and power. 29 Giue vnto the Lorde ye glory of his Name: bring an offring and come before him, and worship the Lorde in the glorious Sanctuarie. 30 Tremble ye before him, al the earth: surely the world shalbe stable and not moue. 31 Let the heauens reioyce, and let the earth be glad, and let them say among the nations, The Lorde reigneth. 32 Let the sea roare, and all that therein is: Let the field be ioyfull and all that is in it. 33 Let the trees of the wood then reioyce at the presence of the Lorde: for he commeth to iudge the earth. 34 Prayse the Lorde, for hee is good, for his mercie endureth for euer. 35 And say ye, Saue vs, O God, our saluation, and gather vs, and deliuer vs from the heathen, that we may prayse thine holy Name, and glorie in thy praise. 36 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel for euer and euer: and let all people say, So be it, and praise the Lorde. 37 Then he left there before the Arke of the Lordes couenant Asaph and his brethren to minister continually before the Arke, that which was to be done euery day: 38 And Obed Edom and his brethren, three score and eight: and Obed Edom the sonne of Ieduthun, and Hosah were porters. 39 And Zadok the Priest and his brethren the Priestes were before the Tabernacle of ye Lorde, in the hie place that was at Gibeon, 40 To offer burnt offrings vnto the Lord, vpon the burnt offring altar continually, in the morning and in the euening, euen according vnto all that is written in the law of the Lord, which hee commaunded Israel. 41 And with them were Heman, and Ieduthun, and the rest that were chosen (which were appointed by names) to praise the Lorde, because his mercie endureth for euer. 42 Euen with them were Heman & Ioduthun, to make a sound with the cornets and with the cymbales, with excellent instruments of musicke: and the sonnes of Ieduthun were at the gate. 43 And all the people departed, euerie man to his house: and Dauid returned to blesse his house.
  • 2 Chr 7:10 : 10 And the three and twentieth day of the seuenth moneth, he sent the people away into their tentes, ioyous and with glad heart, because of the goodnesse that the Lorde had done for Dauid and for Salomon, & for Israel his people.
  • 2 Chr 30:23-26 : 23 And the whole assembly tooke counsel to keepe it other seuen dayes. So they kept it seuen dayes with ioy. 24 For Hezekiah King of Iudah had giuen to the Congregation a thousande bullockes, and seuen thousand sheepe; the princes had giuen to the Congregation a thousand bullocks, and ten thousand sheepe: and many Priests were sanctified. 25 And all the Congregation of Iudah reioyced with the Priestes and the Leuites, and all the Congregation that came out of Israel, and the strangers that came out of the land of Israel, and that dwelt in Iudah. 26 So there was great ioye in Ierusalem: for since the time of Salomon the sonne of Dauid King of Israel there was not the like thing in Ierusalem.
  • Job 29:2-30:31 : 2 Oh that I were as in times past, when God preserued me! 3 When his light shined vpon mine head: and when by his light I walked thorowe the darkenesse, 4 As I was in the dayes of my youth: when Gods prouidence was vpon my tabernacle: 5 When the almightie was yet with me, and my children round about me. 6 When I washed my pathes with butter, & when the rocke powred me out riuers of oyle: 7 When I went out to the gate, euen to the iudgement seat, and when I caused them to prepare my seate in the streete. 8 The yong men saw me, & hid themselues, and the aged arose, and stood vp. 9 The princes stayed talke, and layde their hand on their mouth. 10 The voyce of princes was hidde, and their tongue cleaued to the roofe of their mouth. 11 And when the eare heard me, it blessed me: and when the eye sawe me, it gaue witnesse to me. 12 For I deliuered the poore that cryed, and the fatherlesse, and him that had none to helpe him. 13 The blessing of him that was ready to perish, came vpon me, and I caused the widowes heart to reioyce. 14 I put on iustice, and it couered me: my iudgement was as a robe, and a crowne. 15 I was the eyes to the blinde, and I was the feete to the lame. 16 I was a father vnto the poore, and when I knewe not the cause, I sought it out diligently. 17 I brake also the chawes of the vnrighteous man, and pluckt the praye out of his teeth. 18 Then I sayde, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiplie my dayes as the sand. 19 For my roote is spread out by the water, and the dewe shall lye vpon my branche. 20 My glory shall renue towarde me, and my bowe shall be restored in mine hand. 21 Vnto me men gaue eare, and wayted, and helde their tongue at my counsell. 22 After my wordes they replied not, and my talke dropped vpon them. 23 And they wayted for me, as for the raine, and they opened their mouth as for the latter rayne. 24 If I laughed on them, they beleeued it not: neither did they cause the light of my countenance to fall. 25 I appoynted out their way, and did sit as chiefe, and dwelt as a King in the army, and like him that comforteth the mourners. 1 Bvt now they that are yonger then I, mocke me: yea, they whose fathers I haue refused to set with the dogges of my flockes. 2 For whereto shoulde the strength of their handes haue serued mee, seeing age perished in them? 3 For pouertie and famine they were solitary, fleeing into the wildernes, which is darke, desolate and waste. 4 They cut vp nettels by the bushes, & the iuniper rootes was their meate. 5 They were chased forth fro among men: they shouted at them, as at a theefe. 6 Therfore they dwelt in the clefts of riuers, in the holes of the earth and rockes. 7 They roared among the bushes, and vnder the thistles they gathered themselues. 8 They were the children of fooles and the children of villaines, which were more vile then the earth. 9 And now am I their song, and I am their talke. 10 They abhorre me, & flee farre from mee, and spare not to spit in my face. 11 Because that God hath loosed my corde and humbled mee, they haue loosed the bridle before me. 12 The youth rise vp at my right hand: they haue pusht my feete, and haue trode on me as on the paths of their destruction. 13 They haue destroyed my paths: they tooke pleasure at my calamitie, they had none helpe. 14 They came as a great breach of waters, & vnder this calamitie they come on heapes. 15 Feare is turned vpon mee: and they pursue my soule as the winde, and mine health passeth away as a cloude. 16 Therefore my soule is nowe powred out vpon me, and the dayes of affliction haue taken holde on me. 17 It pearceth my bones in the night, and my sinewes take no rest. 18 For the great vehemencie is my garment changed, which compasseth me about as the colar of my coate. 19 He hath cast me into the myre, and I am become like ashes and dust. 20 Whe I cry vnto thee, thou doest not heare me, neither regardest me, when I stand vp. 21 Thou turnest thy selfe cruelly against me, and art enemie vnto mee with the strength of thine hand. 22 Thou takest me vp & causest mee to ride vpo the winde, & makest my strength to faile. 23 Surely I knowe that thou wilt bring mee to death, and to the house appoynted for all the liuing. 24 Doubtles none can stretch his hand vnto the graue, though they cry in his destruction. 25 Did not I weepe with him that was in trouble? was not my soule in heauinesse for the poore? 26 Yet when I looked for good, euill came vnto me: and when I waited for light, there came darkenesse. 27 My bowels did boyle without rest: for the dayes of affliction are come vpon me. 28 I went mourning without sunne: I stood vp in the congregation and cryed. 29 I am a brother to the dragons, & a companion to the ostriches. 30 My skinne is blacke vpon me, & my bones are burnt with heate. 31 Therefore mine harpe is turned to mourning, and mine organs into the voyce of them that weepe.
