1

To the chief Musician{H8764)} upon Shoshannim, A Psalm of David. Save{H8685)} me, O God; for the waters are come{H8804)} in unto my soul.

2

I sink{H8804)} in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come{H8804)} into deep waters, where the floods overflow{H8804)} me.

3

I am weary{H8804)} of my crying{H8800)}: my throat is dried{H8738)}: mine eyes fail{H8804)} while I wait{H8764)} for my God.

4

They that hate{H8802)} me without a cause are more{H8804)} than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy{H8688)} me, being mine enemies{H8802)} wrongfully, are mighty{H8804)}: then I restored{H8686)} that which I took not away{H8804)}.

5

O God, thou knowest{H8804)} my foolishness; and my sins are not hid{H8738)} from thee.

6

Let not them that wait{H8802)} on thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed{H8799)} for my sake: let not those that seek{H8764)} thee be confounded{H8735)} for my sake, O God of Israel.

7

Because for thy sake I have borne{H8804)} reproach; shame hath covered{H8765)} my face.

8

I am become a stranger{H8716)} unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children.

9

For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up{H8804)}; and the reproaches of them that reproached{H8802)} thee are fallen{H8804)} upon me.

10

When I wept{H8799)}, and chastened my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach.

11

I made{H8799)} sackcloth also my garment; and I became a proverb to them.

12

They that sit in{H8802)} the gate speak{H8799)} against me; and I was the song of the drunkards{H8802)}.

13

But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O LORD, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear{H8798)} me, in the truth of thy salvation.

14

Deliver{H8685)} me out of the mire, and let me not sink{H8799)}: let me be delivered{H8735)} from them that hate{H8802)} me, and out of the deep waters.

15

Let not the waterflood overflow{H8799)} me, neither let the deep swallow me up{H8799)}, and let not the pit shut{H8799)} her mouth upon me.

16

Hear{H8798)} me, O LORD; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn{H8798)} unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.

17

And hide{H8686)} not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble{H8804)}: hear{H8798)} me speedily.

18

Draw nigh{H8798)} unto my soul, and redeem{H8798)} it: deliver{H8798)} me because of mine enemies{H8802)}.

19

Thou hast known{H8804)} my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour: mine adversaries{H8802)} are all before thee.

20

Reproach hath broken{H8804)} my heart; and I am full of heaviness{H8799)}: and I looked{H8762)} for some to take pity{H8800)}, but there was none; and for comforters{H8764)}, but I found{H8804)} none.

21

They gave{H8799)} me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink{H8686)}.

22

Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.

23

Let their eyes be darkened{H8799)}, that they see{H8800)} not; and make their loins continually to shake{H8685)}.

24

Pour out{H8798)} thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold{H8686)} of them.

25

Let their habitation be desolate{H8737)}; and let none dwell{H8802)} in their tents.

26

For they persecute{H8804)} him whom thou hast smitten{H8689)}; and they talk{H8762)} to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded.

27

Add{H8798)} iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come{H8799)} into thy righteousness.

28

Let them be blotted{H8735)} out of the book of the living, and not be written{H8735)} with the righteous.

29

But I am poor and sorrowful{H8802)}: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high{H8762)}.

30

I will praise{H8762)} the name of God with a song, and will magnify{H8762)} him with thanksgiving.

31

This also shall please the LORD better{H8799)} than an ox or bullock that hath horns{H8688)} and hoofs{H8688)}.

32

The humble shall see{H8804)} this, and be glad{H8799)}: and your heart shall live{H8799)} that seek{H8802)} God.

33

For the LORD heareth{H8802)} the poor, and despiseth{H8804)} not his prisoners.

34

Let the heaven and earth praise{H8762)} him, the seas, and every thing that moveth{H8802)} therein.

35

For God will save{H8686)} Zion, and will build{H8799)} the cities of Judah: that they may dwell{H8804)} there, and have it in possession{H8804)}.

36

The seed also of his servants shall inherit{H8799)} it: and they that love{H8802)} his name shall dwell{H8799)} therein.
