Verse 1

There was a certain man in Caesarea named Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,

A devout man, and one who feared God with all his household, who gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always.

He saw in a vision clearly about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming to him, and saying to him, Cornelius.

And when he looked at him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said to him, Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God.

Verse 5

And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:

He is staying with one Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the seaside: he will tell you what you ought to do.

And when the angel who spoke to Cornelius had departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier who waited on him continually;

And when he had declared all these things to them, he sent them to Joppa.

On the next day, as they went on their journey and neared the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:

And he became very hungry, and wanted to eat: but while they prepared, he fell into a trance,

And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending to him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:

In which were all kinds of four-footed beasts of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air.

And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill and eat.

But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.

And the voice spoke to him again the second time, What God has cleansed, do not call common.

This was done three times: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen meant, behold, the men who were sent from Cornelius had inquired for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,

Verse 18

And called, and asked whether Simon, whose surname was Peter, was staying there.

While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said to him, Behold, three men seek you.

Arise therefore, and go down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.

Then Peter went down to the men who were sent to him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom you seek: what is the reason why you have come?

Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?

Verse 22

And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one who fears God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned by a holy angel to send for you to his house, and to hear words from you.

And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.

Verse 23

Then he invited them in, and lodged them. And on the next day Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.

Verse 24

And the day after they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his relatives and near friends.

And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.

But Peter lifted him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.

And he said to them, You know that it is an unlawful thing for a man who is a Jew to keep company with or come to one of another nation; but God has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

Verse 29

Therefore I came without objection as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what reason you have sent for me?

Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?

Verse 30

And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

Verse 31

And said, Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your alms are remembered in the sight of God.

And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.

Verse 32

Send therefore to Joppa, and call here Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is staying in the house of one Simon a tanner by the seaside: when he comes, he will speak to you.

Verse 33

Immediately therefore I sent to you; and you have done well that you have come. Now therefore we are all present before God, to hear all things commanded you by God.

Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

Verse 34

Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Truly I perceive that God shows no partiality:

Verse 35

But in every nation he who fears him and works righteousness is accepted by him.

But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

Verse 36

The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)

Verse 37

That word, I say, you know, which was published throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism that John preached;

Verse 38

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all who were oppressed by the devil; for God was with him.

Verse 39

And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whom they killed by hanging on a tree:

Him God raised up on the third day, and showed him openly;

And he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is he who was ordained by God to be the Judge of the living and the dead.

Verse 43

To him all the prophets witness that through his name whoever believes in him shall receive forgiveness of sins.

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word.

While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

Verse 45

And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was also poured out on the Gentiles.

For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then Peter answered,

Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?

And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.

And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
