Verse 1

I have spoken these things to you so that you may not be offended.

These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

Verse 2

They will put you out of the synagogues: yes, the time is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.

They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

Verse 3

And they will do these things to you because they have not known the Father, nor me.

And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

Verse 4

But I have told you these things, so when the time comes, you may remember I told you about them. I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you.

But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.

Verse 5

But now I go to Him who sent me, and none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?'

But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

Verse 6

But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.

But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

Verse 7

Nevertheless, I tell you the truth; it is beneficial for you that I go away: for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I leave, I will send him to you.

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

Verse 8

And when he has come, he will convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment:

And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

Verse 9

Of sin, because they do not believe in me;

Of sin, because they believe not on me;

Verse 10

Of righteousness, because I go to my Father and you see me no more;

Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

Verse 11

Of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

Verse 12

I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.

I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

Verse 13

However, when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth: for he will not speak on his own; but whatever he hears, he will speak: and he will show you things to come.

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Verse 14

He will glorify me: for he will take of what is mine, and will show it to you.

He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

Verse 15

All things that the Father has are mine: therefore, I said he will take of mine, and show it to you.

All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

Verse 16

In a little while you will not see me: and again, in a little while, you will see me, because I go to the Father.

A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

Verse 17

Then some of his disciples said among themselves, 'What is this that he says to us, A little while, and you will not see me: and again, a little while, and you will see me: and, Because I go to the Father?'

Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?

Verse 18

They said therefore, 'What is this that he says, A little while? We do not understand what he is saying.'

They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.

Verse 19

Now Jesus knew they wanted to ask him and said to them, 'Are you inquiring among yourselves about what I said, A little while, and you will not see me: and again, a little while, and you will see me?'

Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?

Verse 20

Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice: and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

Verse 21

A woman, when she is in labor, has sorrow because her hour has come: but as soon as she has delivered the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a man has been born into the world.

A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

Verse 22

And now you have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.

And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

Verse 23

And in that day you will ask me nothing. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name, he will give you.

And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

Verse 24

Until now you have asked nothing in my name: ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be complete.

Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Verse 25

I have spoken these things to you in proverbs: but the time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in proverbs, but I will show you plainly about the Father.

These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.

Verse 26

In that day you will ask in my name: and I do not say to you that I will pray the Father for you:

At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:

Verse 27

For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came from God.

For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

Verse 28

I came forth from the Father and have come into the world: again, I leave the world and go to the Father.

I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

Verse 29

His disciples said to him, 'Look, now you are speaking plainly and not using any proverb.'

His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.

Verse 30

Now we are sure that you know all things and have no need that anyone should question you: by this, we believe that you came forth from God.

Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.

Verse 31

Jesus answered them, 'Do you now believe?'

Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?

Verse 32

Behold, the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

Verse 33

I have spoken these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
