Verse 1

After these things, Jesus walked in Galilee, because he would not walk in Judea, as the Jews sought to kill him.

Verse 2

Now the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles was near.

Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand.

Verse 3

His brothers therefore said to him, Leave here and go into Judea, so your disciples may also see the works you do.

His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.

Verse 4

For no one does anything in secret while he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.

For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.

Verse 5

For neither did his brothers believe in him.

For neither did his brethren believe in him.

Verse 6

Then Jesus said to them, My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.

Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.

Verse 7

The world cannot hate you, but it hates me, because I testify of it that its works are evil.

The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.

Verse 8

Go up to this feast yourselves; I am not going up yet to this feast, for my time has not yet fully come.

Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.

Verse 9

When he had said these things to them, he stayed in Galilee.

When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.

Verse 10

But when his brothers had gone up, then he also went up to the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.

But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.

Verse 11

Then the Jews sought him at the feast and said, Where is he?

Verse 12

And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him. Some said, He is a good man; others said, No, but he deceives the people.

And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.

Verse 13

However, no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.

Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.

Now about the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught.

Verse 15

And the Jews marveled, saying, How does this man know letters, having never studied?

And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?

Verse 16

Jesus answered them and said, My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.

Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.

Verse 17

If anyone will do his will, he shall know concerning the teaching, whether it is from God or whether I speak on my own authority.

If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

Verse 18

He who speaks on his own seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

Verse 19

Did not Moses give you the law, yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill me?

Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?

Verse 20

The people answered and said, You have a demon. Who is seeking to kill you?

The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?

Verse 21

Jesus answered and said to them, I have done one work, and you all marvel.

Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.

Verse 22

Moses therefore gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.

Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man.

Verse 23

If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath?

If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?

Verse 24

Judge not according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.

Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

Verse 25

Then some of them from Jerusalem said, Is this not he whom they seek to kill?

Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?

Verse 26

But look, he speaks boldly, and they say nothing to him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is truly the Christ?

But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?

Verse 27

However, we know where this man is from; but when the Christ comes, no one knows where he is from.

Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.

Verse 28

Then Jesus cried out in the temple as he taught, saying, You both know me, and you know where I am from; and I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you do not know.

Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.

Verse 29

But I know him, for I am from him, and he sent me.

But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.

Verse 30

Then they sought to take him, but no one laid hands on him because his hour had not yet come.

Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.

Verse 31

And many of the people believed in him and said, When the Christ comes, will he do more signs than these which this man has done?

And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?

Verse 32

The Pharisees heard the people murmuring such things concerning him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.

The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.

Verse 33

Then Jesus said to them, I shall be with you a little while longer, and then I go to him who sent me.

Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.

Verse 34

You will seek me and not find me, and where I am, you cannot come.

Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.

Verse 35

Then the Jews said among themselves, Where does he intend to go that we shall not find him? Does he intend to go to the dispersed among the Gentiles and teach the Gentiles?

Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?

Verse 36

What does he mean by saying, You will seek me and not find me, and where I am, you cannot come?

What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?

Verse 37

On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.

Verse 38

He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.

He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

But this he spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Verse 40

Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, Truly this is the Prophet.

Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.

Verse 41

Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Will the Christ come out of Galilee?

Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?

Verse 42

Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

Verse 43

So there was a division among the people because of him.

And some of them wanted to take him, but no one laid hands on him.

And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.

Verse 45

Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, Why have you not brought him?

Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?

Verse 46

The officers answered, No man ever spoke like this man.

The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.

Verse 47

Then the Pharisees answered them, Are you also deceived?

Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?

Verse 48

Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in him?

Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?

Verse 49

But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.

But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.

Verse 50

Nicodemus (he who came to Jesus by night, being one of them) said to them,

Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)

Verse 51

Does our law judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing?

Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?

Verse 52

They answered and said to him, Are you also from Galilee? Search and look, for no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.

They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.

Verse 53

And everyone went to his own house.

And every man went unto his own house.
