Verse 1

As Jesus passed by, he saw a man who was blind from birth.

Verse 2

And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?

Verse 3

Jesus answered, Neither this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be revealed in him.

Verse 4

I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night comes, when no man can work.

When he had spoken thus, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spit, and anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,

And said to him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is translated, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came back seeing.

Verse 8

The neighbors therefore, and those who previously had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?

Verse 9

Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.

Verse 10

Therefore they said to him, How were your eyes opened?

Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?

Verse 11

He answered and said, A man called Jesus made clay, and anointed my eyes, and said to me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.

He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.

Verse 12

Then they said to him, Where is he? He said, I do not know.

Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.

Verse 13

They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind.

They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.

And it was the Sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.

Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said to them, He put clay upon my eyes, and I washed, and do see.

Verse 16

Therefore some of the Pharisees said, This man is not from God, because he does not keep the Sabbath day. Others said, How can a man who is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.

Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.

Verse 17

They said to the blind man again, What do you say about him, that he has opened your eyes? He said, He is a prophet.

They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.

Verse 18

But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him who had received his sight.

And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who you say was born blind? how then does he now see?

His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:

But by what means he now sees, we do not know; or who has opened his eyes, we do not know: he is of age; ask him: he will speak for himself.

Verse 22

These words his parents spoke, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man confessed that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

Verse 23

Therefore his parents said, He is of age; ask him.

Then again they called the man who was blind, and said to him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.

He answered and said, Whether he is a sinner or not, I do not know: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

Verse 26

Then they said to him again, What did he do to you? how did he open your eyes?

Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?

Verse 27

He answered them, I have told you already, and you did not hear: why do you want to hear it again? will you also be his disciples?

He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?

Verse 28

Then they reviled him, and said, You are his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples.

Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples.

Verse 29

We know that God spoke to Moses: as for this fellow, we do not know where he is from.

We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.

Verse 30

The man answered and said to them, Well, here is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where he is from, yet he has opened my eyes.

The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.

Verse 31

Now we know that God does not hear sinners: but if any man is a worshiper of God, and does his will, him he hears.

Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

Verse 32

Since the world began it has never been heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.

Verse 33

If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.

If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.

Verse 34

They answered and said to him, You were completely born in sins, and do you teach us? And they cast him out.

They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.

Verse 35

Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he found him, he said to him, Do you believe in the Son of God?

Verse 36

He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe in him?

Verse 37

And Jesus said to him, You have both seen him, and it is he who talks with you.

And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.

Verse 38

And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshiped him.

And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.

Verse 39

And Jesus said, For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see might see; and that those who see might be made blind.

And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.

Verse 40

And some of the Pharisees who were with him heard these words, and said to him, Are we blind also?

And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?

Verse 41

Jesus said to them, If you were blind, you would have no sin: but now you say, We see; therefore your sin remains.

Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.
