4And they gave him seventy pieces of silver from the house of Baal-berith, with which Abimelech hired worthless and reckless men, who followed him.
5And he went to his father's house at Ophrah, and killed his brothers, the sons of Jerubbaal, seventy persons, on one stone. But Jotham, the youngest son of Jerubbaal, was left, for he hid himself.
56Thus God repaid the wickedness of Abimelech, which he had done to his father, in killing his seventy brothers.
2And Jephthah said to them, I and my people were in great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, you did not deliver me out of their hands.
3And when I saw that you did not deliver me, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: why then have you come up to me this day, to fight against me?
4Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead struck Ephraim, because they said, You Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.
19And he said, They were my brothers, even the sons of my mother: as the LORD lives, if you had saved them alive, I would not kill you.
20And he said to Jether his firstborn, Rise, and kill them. But the youth did not draw his sword: for he was afraid, because he was still a youth.
21Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, Rise and fall upon us: for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gideon arose and killed Zebah and Zalmunna, and took away the ornaments that were on their camels' necks.
22Then the men of Israel said to Gideon, Rule over us, both you, and your son, and your grandson also: for you have delivered us from the hand of Midian.
13And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? But now the LORD has forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.
14And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this your might, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?
15And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, how shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house.
16And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with you, and you shall smite the Midianites as one man.
39And Gaal went out before the men of Shechem and fought with Abimelech.
40And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him, and many were overthrown and wounded, even to the entrance of the gate.
9And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said to him, Arise, go down to the army, for I have delivered it into your hand.
12Now therefore, I pray, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shown you kindness, that you will also show kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token:
13And that you will save my father, and my mother, and my brothers, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.
24So that the violence done to the seventy sons of Jerubbaal might be avenged, and their blood be upon Abimelech their brother who killed them, and upon the men of Shechem who aided him in the killing of his brothers.
11And the LORD sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and you dwelled safe.
1And the men of Ephraim said to him, Why have you treated us this way, that you did not call us when you went to fight with the Midianites? And they argued with him sharply.
2And he said to them, What have I done now in comparison to you? Isn't the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?
3God has delivered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison to you? Then their anger was pacified toward him when he said that.
1Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people with him, rose early and camped beside the well of Harod, so the Midianite army was on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.
2And the LORD said to Gideon, The people with you are too many for me to hand the Midianites over to you, lest Israel boast against me, saying, My own hand has saved me.
36And Gideon said unto God, If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have said,
14And his friend answered and said, This is nothing else but the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel; for God has delivered Midian and all the army into his hand.
15And it was so when Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, that he worshipped, and returned to the army of Israel and said, Arise, for the LORD has delivered the Midianite army into your hand.
6And you know that with all my strength I have served your father.
32Now therefore arise by night, you and the people with you, and lie in wait in the field.
2Avenge the children of Israel on the Midianites; afterward you shall be gathered to your people.
33Then all the Midianites, the Amalekites, and the children of the east gathered together, went over, and pitched in the valley of Jezreel.
28And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? Isn’t he the son of Jerubbaal? And isn’t Zebul his officer? Serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem! Why should we serve him?
29If only this people were under my command! Then I would remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase your army and come out!
27Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the LORD had said unto him. And so it was, because he feared his father's household and the men of the city, that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.
9So God has taken away the cattle of your father and given them to me.
26And Gaal the son of Ebed came with his relatives and went over to Shechem; and the men of Shechem put their confidence in him.
32So Jephthah advanced towards the children of Ammon to fight against them; and the LORD delivered them into his hands.
4And the name of the other was Eliezer, for the God of my father, he said, was my help and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh.
