Verse 1

After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before him into every city and place where he himself would come.

Verse 2

Then he said to them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.

Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

Verse 3

Go your ways: behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves.

Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.

Verse 4

Carry neither purse, nor bag, nor sandals: and greet no one on the way.

Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.

Verse 5

And into whatever house you enter, first say, Peace be to this house.

And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.

Verse 6

And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon it: if not, it will return to you.

And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.

Verse 7

And remain in the same house, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house.

And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.

Verse 8

And into whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:

And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:

Verse 9

And heal the sick there, and say to them, The kingdom of God has come near to you.

And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.

Verse 10

But into whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you, go out into the streets and say,

But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,

Verse 11

Even the very dust of your city which clings to us, we wipe off against you: nevertheless be sure of this, that the kingdom of God has come near to you.

Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.

Verse 12

But I say to you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city.

But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.

Verse 13

Woe to you, Chorazin! woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

Verse 14

But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.

But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.

Verse 15

And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, you shall be brought down to hell.

And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell.

Verse 16

He who hears you hears me; and he who despises you despises me; and he who despises me despises him who sent me.

He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.

Verse 17

And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name.

And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

Verse 18

And he said to them, I saw Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

Verse 19

Behold, I give you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Verse 20

Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you; but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.

Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

Verse 21

In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit and said, I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and revealed them to babes: even so, Father, for so it seemed good in your sight.

In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.

Verse 22

All things have been delivered to me by my Father: and no one knows who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.

All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.

Verse 23

And he turned to his disciples and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that you see:

Verse 24

For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which you see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which you hear, and have not heard them.

Verse 25

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested him, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

Verse 26

He said to him, What is written in the law? How do you read it?

He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?

Verse 27

And he answered, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.

And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

Verse 28

And he said to him, You have answered rightly: this do, and you shall live.

And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.

Verse 29

But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor?

But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

Verse 30

And Jesus answered and said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

Verse 31

Now by chance a certain priest came down that way, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side.

Verse 33

But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

And went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

Verse 35

On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.

And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

Verse 36

Now, which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?

Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?

Verse 37

And he said, He who showed mercy on him. Then Jesus said to him, Go and do likewise.

And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

Verse 38

Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered a certain village, and a certain woman named Martha welcomed him into her house.

Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.

Verse 39

And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard his word.

And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.

Verse 40

But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached him and said, Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.

But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.

Verse 41

And Jesus answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things:

And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:

Verse 42

But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.

But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
