Verse 1

And it happened on the second Sabbath after the first, that he went through the grain fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of grain, and ate, rubbing them in their hands.

Then said Jesus to them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the Sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?

And he came down with them, and stood on the plain, with a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;

Blessed are you, when men shall hate you, and when they shall exclude you, and reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of Man's sake.

Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in like manner did their fathers to the prophets.

But woe to you that are rich! for you have received your consolation.

But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,

Bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.

And to him who strikes you on one cheek, offer also the other; and to him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your coat also.

And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also.

Verse 30

Give to everyone who asks of you; and from him who takes away your goods, do not ask them back.

Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.

Verse 31

And as you would that men should do to you, do also to them likewise.

And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.

Verse 32

For if you love those who love you, what thanks do you have? for sinners also love those who love them.

For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.

Verse 33

And if you do good to those who do good to you, what thanks do you have? for sinners also do the same.

And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.

Verse 34

And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what thanks do you have? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.

And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.

Verse 35

But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward shall be great, and you shall be children of the Highest: for he is kind to the unthankful and to the evil.

Verse 36

Be therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

Give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you measure, it shall be measured back to you.

Verse 39

And he spoke a parable to them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?

The disciple is not above his master: but everyone who is perfect shall be as his master.

And why do you behold the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the beam that is in your own eye?

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Or how can you say to your brother, Brother, let me pull out the speck that is in your eye, when you yourself do not see the beam that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of your own eye, and then you shall see clearly to pull out the speck that is in your brother's eye.

Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.

Verse 43

For a good tree does not bring forth corrupt fruit; neither does a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

Verse 44

For every tree is known by its own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor from a bramble bush do they gather grapes.

Verse 45

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil: for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

Verse 46

And why do you call me, Lord, Lord, and do not do the things which I say?

Whoever comes to me, and hears my sayings, and does them, I will show you to whom he is like:

He is like a man who built a house, and dug deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
