Verse 1

And when he had called his twelve disciples to him, he gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.

These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter any city of the Samaritans:

Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor copper in your belts,

Nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor staffs: for the worker is worthy of his food.

Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.

Verse 11

And whatever city or town you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and stay there until you leave.

And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.

Verse 12

And when you come into a house, greet it.

And when ye come into an house, salute it.

Verse 13

And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.

And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.

Verse 14

And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet.

And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

Verse 15

Truly I say to you, it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city.

Verse 16

Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: therefore, be wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils and they will scourge you in their synagogues;

And you shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, as a testimony against them and the Gentiles.

But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you shall speak: for it shall be given to you in that same hour what you shall speak.

For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.

And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and the father the child; and the children shall rise against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.

Verse 22

And you shall be hated by all men for my name's sake: but he who endures to the end shall be saved.

And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

Verse 23

But when they persecute you in this city, flee to another: for truly I say to you, You shall not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.

Verse 24

The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.

It is enough for the disciple that he be like his master, and the servant like his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call those of his household?

Verse 26

Do not fear them therefore: for there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed, and hidden that shall not be known.

Verse 27

What I tell you in darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in the ear, proclaim on the housetops.

Verse 28

And do not fear those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Verse 29

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father.

Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

Verse 30

But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

Therefore, do not fear; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Whoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I also confess before my Father who is in heaven.

But whoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father who is in heaven.

Verse 34

Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth: I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

Verse 35

For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

Verse 36

And a man's enemies will be those of his own household.

And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

Verse 37

He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Verse 38

And he who does not take his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.

And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

Verse 39

He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.

He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Verse 40

He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me.

He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

Verse 41

He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.

He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.

Verse 42

And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.

And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
