Verse 1

And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain apart,

Verse 2

And was transfigured before them: and his face shone like the sun, and his clothing was white as the light.

Verse 3

And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah talking with him.

And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.

Verse 4

Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if you will, let us make here three tabernacles; one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.

Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

Verse 5

While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; listen to him.

Verse 6

And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were very afraid.

And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and do not be afraid.

And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus only.

Verse 9

And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus instructed them, saying, Tell the vision to no one, until the Son of Man is risen again from the dead.

Verse 10

And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must first come?

Verse 11

And Jesus answered and said to them, Elijah truly shall first come, and restore all things.

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.

Verse 12

But I say to you, That Elijah has already come, and they did not know him, but have done to him whatever they wished. Likewise shall also the Son of Man suffer by them.

But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.

Verse 13

Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them of John the Baptist.

Verse 14

And when they came to the multitude, a certain man came to him, kneeling down to him, and saying,

Verse 15

Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is a lunatic, and very troubled: for often he falls into the fire, and often into the water.

And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not cure him.

Verse 17

Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him here to me.

Verse 18

And Jesus rebuked the demon; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

Verse 19

Then the disciples came to Jesus apart, and said, Why could we not cast him out?

Verse 20

And Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief: for truly I say to you, If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, Move from here to there; and it shall move; and nothing shall be impossible to you.

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Verse 21

However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.

Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Verse 22

And while they remained in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of Man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:

And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:

Verse 23

And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceedingly sorry.

Verse 24

And when they came to Capernaum, those who collected tribute money came to Peter, and said, Does your master not pay tribute?

And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?

Verse 25

He said, Yes. And when he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or tribute? from their own children, or from strangers?

He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?

Verse 26

Peter said to him, From strangers. Jesus said to him, Then the children are free.

Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.

Verse 27

Nevertheless, lest we should offend them, go to the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up; and when you have opened its mouth, you shall find a piece of money: take that, and give it to them for me and you.

Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
