1The Return to Bethel Then God said to Jacob,“Go up at once to Bethel and live there. Make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”
24Then Joseph said to his brothers,“I am about to die. But God will surely come to you and lead you up from this land to the land he swore on oath to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
3Let us go up at once to Bethel. Then I will make an altar there to God, who responded to me in my time of distress and has been with me wherever I went.”
23When the men of Joseph spied out Bethel(it used to be called Luz),
25because of the God of your father, who will help you, because of the Sovereign God, who will bless you with blessings from the sky above, blessings from the deep that lies below, and blessings of the breasts and womb.
26The blessings of your father are greater than the blessings of the eternal mountains or the desirable things of the age-old hills. They will be on the head of Joseph and on the brow of the prince of his brothers.
5There he said to them,“I can tell that your father’s attitude toward me has changed, but the God of my father has been with me.
29Then Jacob asked,“Please tell me your name.”“Why do you ask my name?” the man replied. Then he blessed Jacob there.
30So Jacob named the place Peniel, explaining,“Certainly I have seen God face to face and have survived.”
3May the Sovereign God bless you! May he make you fruitful and give you a multitude of descendants! Then you will become a large nation.
11In the dream the angel of God said to me,‘Jacob!’‘Here I am!’ I replied.
