Therefore I will again do an amazing thing for these people– an absolutely extraordinary deed. Wise men will have nothing to say, the sages will have no explanations.”

    11To you this entire prophetic revelation is like words in a sealed scroll. When they hand it to one who can read and say,“Read this,” he responds,“I can’t, because it is sealed.”

    12Or when they hand the scroll to one who can’t read and say,“Read this,” he says,“I can’t read.”

    13The Lord says,“These people say they are loyal to me; they say wonderful things about me, but they are not really loyal to me. Their worship consists of nothing but man-made ritual.

  • 29Secret things belong to the LORD our God, but those that are revealed belong to us and our descendants forever, so that we might obey all the words of this law.

  • 12I said,“Who is wise enough to understand why this has happened? Who has a word from the LORD that can explain it? Why does the land lie in ruins? Why is it as scorched as a desert through which no one travels?”

    28They are a nation devoid of wisdom, and there is no understanding among them.

    29I wish that they were wise and could understand this, and that they could comprehend what will happen to them.”

    20And again,“The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.”

  • 9“I, the LORD, say:‘This shows how I will ruin the highly exalted position in which Judah and Jerusalem take pride.

  • 4Because you have closed their minds to understanding, therefore you will not exalt them.

  • 9Concluding Exhortation Who is wise? Let him discern these things! Who is discerning? Let him understand them! For the ways of the LORD are right; the godly walk in them,but in them the rebellious stumble.

  • 8Take notice of this, you ignorant people! You fools, when will you ever understand?

  • 10he does great and unsearchable things, and wonderful things without number.

  • 9and all people will fear. They will proclaim what God has done, and reflect on his deeds.

  • 6You have heard; now look at all the evidence! Will you not admit that what I say is true? From this point on I am announcing to you new events that are previously unrevealed and you do not know about.

  • 33Wisdom rests in the heart of the discerning; it is not known in the inner parts of fools.

  • 16So their land will become an object of horror. People will forever hiss out their scorn over it. All who pass that way will be filled with horror and will shake their heads in derision.

  • 16Nations will see this and be disappointed by all their strength, they will put their hands over their mouths, and act as if they were deaf.

  • 15The LORD says,“Listen, nation of Israel! I am about to bring a nation from far away to attack you. It will be a nation that was founded long ago and has lasted for a long time. It will be a nation whose language you will not know. Its people will speak words that you will not be able to understand.
