5The LORD spoke to me again:
1Ahaz Receives a Sign During the reign of Ahaz son of Jotham, son of Uzziah, king of Judah, King Rezin of Syria and King Pekah son of Remaliah of Israel marched up to Jerusalem to do battle, but they were unable to prevail against it.
2It was reported to the family of David,“Syria has allied with Ephraim.” They and their people were emotionally shaken, just as the trees of the forest shake before the wind.
3So the LORD told Isaiah,“Go out with your son Shear-jashub and meet Ahaz at the end of the conduit of the upper pool which is located on the road to the field where they wash and dry cloth.
4Tell him,‘Make sure you stay calm! Don’t be afraid! Don’t be intimidated by these two stubs of smoking logs, or by the raging anger of Rezin, Syria, and the son of Remaliah.
5Syria has plotted with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah to bring about your demise.
6They say,“Let’s attack Judah, terrorize it, and conquer it. Then we’ll set up the son of Tabeel as its king.”
7For this reason the Sovereign LORD says:“It will not take place; it will not happen.
7Isaiah replied,“This is your sign from the LORD confirming that the LORD will do what he has said:
9Ephraim’s leader is Samaria, and Samaria’s leader is the son of Remaliah. If your faith does not remain firm, then you will not remain secure.”
7Ahaz sent messengers to King Tiglath-pileser of Assyria, saying,“I am your servant and your dependent. March up and rescue me from the power of the king of Syria and the king of Israel, who have attacked me.”
8Then Ahaz took the silver and gold that were in the LORD’s temple and in the treasuries of the royal palace and sent it as tribute to the king of Assyria.
9The king of Assyria responded favorably to his request; he attacked Damascus and captured it. He deported the people to Kir and executed Rezin.
10When King Ahaz went to meet with King Tiglath-pileser of Assyria in Damascus, he saw the altar there. King Ahaz sent to Uriah the priest a drawing of the altar and a blueprint for its design.
11Uriah the priest built an altar in conformity to the plans King Ahaz had sent from Damascus. Uriah the priest finished it before King Ahaz arrived back from Damascus.
1The End Arrives The LORD’s message came to me:
5At that time King Rezin of Syria and King Pekah son of Remaliah of Israel attacked Jerusalem. They besieged Ahaz, but were unable to conquer him.
5Isaiah said to Hezekiah,“Listen to the message of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies:
21Ahaz gathered riches from the LORD’s temple, the royal palace, and the officials and gave them to the king of Assyria, but that did not help.
22During his time of trouble King Ahaz was even more unfaithful to the LORD.
4The LORD’s message came to Isaiah,
16Isaiah said to Hezekiah,“Listen to the LORD’s message,
8Again the LORD’s message came to Zechariah:
37In those days the LORD prompted King Rezin of Syria and Pekah son of Remaliah to attack Judah.
22Hezekiah said,“What is the confirming sign that I will go up to the LORD’s temple?”
28The Lord Will Judge the Philistines This oracle came in the year that King Ahaz died:
8Hezekiah had said to Isaiah,“What is the confirming sign that the LORD will heal me and that I will go up to the LORD’s temple the day after tomorrow?”
9Isaiah replied,“This is your sign from the LORD confirming that the LORD will do what he has said. Do you want the shadow to move ahead ten steps or to go back ten steps?”
7Perhaps you will tell me,‘We are trusting in the LORD our God.’ But Hezekiah is the one who eliminated his high places and altars and then told the people of Judah and Jerusalem,‘You must worship at this altar.’
10“Tell King Hezekiah of Judah this:‘Don’t let your God in whom you trust mislead you when he says,“Jerusalem will not be handed over to the king of Assyria.”
1The Lord, not Idols, is the Only Worthy Object of Worship You people of Israel, listen to what the LORD has to say to you.
4Isaiah had not yet left the middle courtyard when the LORD’s message came to him,
15Hezekiah prayed before the LORD:
1Ahaz’s Reign over Judah In the seventeenth year of the reign of Pekah son of Remaliah, Jotham’s son Ahaz became king over Judah.
8Moreover, the LORD’s message came to me as follows:
17The LORD will bring on you, your people, and your father’s family a time unlike any since Ephraim departed from Judah– the king of Assyria!”
1The Blessing of True Fasting Then the message of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies came to me as follows:
15King Ahaz ordered Uriah the priest,“On the large altar offer the morning burnt sacrifice, the evening grain offering, the royal burnt sacrifices and grain offering, the burnt sacrifice for all the people of the land, their grain offering, and their libations. Sprinkle all the blood of the burnt sacrifice and other sacrifices on it. The bronze altar will be for my personal use.”
21Isaiah son of Amoz sent this message to Hezekiah:“This is what the LORD God of Israel has said:‘As to what you have prayed to me concerning King Sennacherib of Assyria,
16At that time King Ahaz asked the king of Assyria for help.
19The LORD humiliated Judah because of King Ahaz of Israel, for he encouraged Judah to sin and was very unfaithful to the LORD.
20A Prophecy Against Sidon The LORD’s message came to me:
1A Sign-Child is Born The LORD told me,“Take a large tablet and inscribe these words on it with an ordinary stylus:‘Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz.’
16So now listen to the LORD’s message! You say,‘Don’t prophesy against Israel! Don’t preach against the family of Isaac!’
10“Tell King Hezekiah of Judah this:‘Don’t let your God in whom you trust mislead you when he says,“Jerusalem will not be handed over to the king of Assyria.”
