I brought the leaders of Judah up on top of the wall, and I appointed two large choirs to give thanks. One was to proceed on the top of the wall southward toward the Dung Gate.

  • 1The Fall of Jerusalem A wind lifted me up and brought me to the east gate of the LORD’s temple that faces the east. There, at the entrance of the gate, I noticed twenty-five men. Among them I saw Jaazaniah son of Azzur and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, officials of the people.

  • 24Then I set apart twelve of the leading priests, together with Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brothers,

  • 12These divisions of the gatekeepers, corresponding to their leaders, had assigned responsibilities, like their relatives, as they served in the LORD’s temple.

  • 19He posted guards at the gates of the LORD’s temple, so no one who was ceremonially unclean in any way could enter.

  • 3They said to me,“The remnant that remains from the exile there in the province are experiencing considerable adversity and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem lies breached, and its gates have been burned down!”

  • 4Then the Levites– Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Kenani– stood on the steps and called out loudly to the LORD their God.

  • 12In Judah God moved the people to unite and carry out the edict of the king and the officers in keeping with the LORD’s message.

  • 8When Hezekiah and the officials came and saw the heaps, they praised the LORD and pronounced blessings on his people Israel.

  • 2The people gave their blessing on all the men who volunteered to settle in Jerusalem.

  • 9Then I went to the governors of Trans-Euphrates, and I presented to them the letters from the king. The king had sent with me officers of the army and horsemen.
